Teacher of English - Part Time (3 Days Mon, Tue, Wed)

Sylvia Young Theatre SchoolWestminster

Required for September 2021 to join the committed and mutually supportive academic staff team in this highly regarded central London performing arts school.

The school is co-educational, catering for 250 students from 10-16 who receive a high standard of academic education to GCSE level alongside their vocational training. Academic education and qualifications are highly valued by the school, and the students display a very positive attitude to their academic studies.

The post is part time, as are all academic teaching posts. The position requires 3 full days teaching on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. There is no flexibility in this respect as all academic lessons take place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to allow for Thursday and Friday to be devoted entirely to vocational training.

The academic staff work as a supportive team with everyone taking responsibility for their own classes, and sharing responsibility for their subject area with other teachers of the same subject. There are no heads of department. The level of knowledge and responsibility required to operate within this very successful structure means that the post is not suitable for an NQT.

The English Department is a thriving and happy place which fosters enthusiasm in the team and in the students.   The teachers work together to nurture the students and the department prides itself on its collaborative approach.  Members of the department are encouraged to share their interests and expertise and take a full part in the development and delivery of the curriculum.

The school is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to safeguarding children. An Enhanced DBS check will be required.

Closing date: Thursday 6th May
