Teacher of English – Required for September 2017 - Teachers’ Pay Scale

“It is not enough for young people to be loved. They must know that they are loved.” St John Bosco

The Governors are seeking to appoint an outstanding full time teacher of English up to A Level, to join this Catholic 11-18 comprehensive school judged “good” by Ofsted in March 2013 and by the Archdiocese of Southwark in 2014.  There is the additional possibility of a Head of Year responsibility for the right candidate which attracts a TLR2.

It is an exciting time to join St John Bosco College as we continue on our journey towards being an outstanding school, now fully settled into our new state-of-the-art building in the heart of Battersea.  Our success can be credited to our committed and dedicated staff who strive for excellence and promote high aspirations throughout the school.

Successful Candidate would be:

  • A dynamic English Teacher able to teach English up to A Level
  • Committed to consistently delivering the highest quality of teaching, passionate about  ensuring that every student is continually motivated and progresses to their full potential
  • Supportive of the Catholic, Salesian ethos of St John Bosco College and willing to make a positive contribution to the wider life of the school

The ability to teach A Level Media Studies would be advantageous but is not essential.

If you would like to discuss the post further please contact Mr T Raymond, Deputy Headteacher via the main school telephone number or email traymond@sjbc.wandsworth.sch.uk

In the interests of efficiency, economy and the environment, candidates are encouraged to download an application from the school website, www.sjbc.wandsworth.sch.uk.

Completed application should be returned to the school either by email or post. CVs are not accepted.  Please note that if you complete the application form on an Apple Mac you must use ‘Adobe Acrobat Reader’ (you can get it here:  http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/) and not the ‘Preview’ application that comes with the computer due to an incompatibility.

Closing date: Noon 16 June 2017

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to a DBS check.

St John Bosco College is located in the heart of Battersea a short distance from Clapham Junction and Battersea Bridge.  We are an 'outstanding' Catholic School (Section 48 inspection June 2019) rated were 'good' by Ofsted in our most recent inspection (October 2022).

At St John Bosco College we believe that there should be no limit on what our pupils can achieve and we expect everyone who joins us to aim high and always do their best. With a broad and balanced curriculum, excellent teaching, a modern purpose-built school and a caring, nurturing ethos; we provide an excellent environment where all of our pupils can reach their full potential.

“Saint John Bosco is a Catholic college, but admits pupils from a wide range of faiths and cultures and these differences are embraced and celebrated” Ofsted

We want our pupils to work hard but also enjoy life in school.  We provide many enrichment activities; sporting, work experience, cultural and charitable; for our pupils to learn and grow beyond the confines of the classroom.  We believe that these opportunities enable our pupils to grow and develop into well-rounded young men and women who will leave here fully equipped for life beyond school.

“Staff know each and every pupil and relationships are consequently highly positive.” Ofsted

Our identity as a Roman Catholic school and our school’s distinctive Salesian ethos is based on St John Bosco’s vision that ‘it is not enough for every child to be loved… they must know that they are loved’. We provide strong pastoral support and a high level of care for every student, regardless of their background.  We are a community where everyone is highly valued as an individual.

“Pupils mix well in this harmonious environment and benefit from personalised support and guidance” Ofsted

Whilst we are justifiably proud of our school and of the achievements of the young people who have already studied here we are equally excited about the future and the potential of the young people joining our school to achieve great things in the years ahead.

“The school’s vision that ‘it is not enough for young people to be loved, they must know that they are loved’ permeates the school’s culture” Ofsted
