About St Paul’s & Colet Court

St Paul’s School and St Paul’s Juniors is an independent, selective, day and boarding school for boys aged 7-18. It is situated in Barnes, south-west London, and there are more than 900 pupils.

The founder of the school, John Colet, Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral, opened the doors in 1509 with the aim to educate boys “from all nations and countries indifferently”, regardless of race, creed or social background.

The institution is formed of two schools, St Paul’s and St Paul’s Juniors (formerly known as Colet Court). The former is for boys aged 13-18 and the latter is for boys aged 7-13.

Values and vision

Both St Paul’s School and St Paul’s Juniors wish to admit highly able and curious boys, helping them to develop a spirit of enquiry and curiosity through inspirational and responsive teaching. Staff strongly believe in looking after the welfare of pupils and provide individual pastoral care that promotes independence while fostering respect. The schools honour John Colet's founding commitment that St Paul's is open to all academically eligible boys regardless of economic and social circumstance.

ISI report

“At all ages, the pupils’ personal development is outstanding. The mixed-age tutor groups, which underpin the school’s excellent pastoral care, ensure that all pupils are well known and supported, and enable older pupils to look after younger ones. Pupils of all ages are extremely well behaved, articulate, motivated, keen to learn and able to think for themselves. They are highly appreciative of their excellent relationships with teachers and across the pupil body. All departments contribute to the excellent spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of the pupils, in line with a recommendation of the previous inspection. The quality of boarding is good, and boarder are fully integrated within the school community.”
