Job overview

St George Catholic College is an oversubscribed rapidly improving 11-16 school, with a proven track record of continued success. It is currently ranked in the top 5% of schools nationally for progress. The college is rated by Ofsted as ‘Good’ (2021) with the potential to be graded outstanding in its next inspection. It has been graded ‘Outstanding’ across all areas for the last four Local Authority inspections. It is a college in which we have a commitment to knowing every student and ensuring they fulfil their potential. In our 2021 OFSTED report it stated that “This is a very friendly school and pupils enjoy coming in each day”. Pupils’ kindness towards each other is underpinned by the school’s Catholic ethos and their ‘ASPIRE’ values of respect and positive relationships. Pupils and teachers often talk about the school as being ‘like one big family.’ They celebrate the range of different cultures and backgrounds that make up their school community.

The English department plays a key role in the College’s achievement and development, and the department is a driven and cohesive team who demand the best from each other and from their students. The right candidate would benefit from entering a supportive environment with a wide range of skills, innovation and experience. There is no requirement to be Catholic and we would welcome Early Career Teachers, or more experienced teachers to apply.

The English Department is a consistently ‘Outstanding’ team of eight full time specialist teachers, who achieve outstanding results with the students they teach. 93% of students achieved a Grade 4 (Standard pass) and above, 83% achieved a Grade 5 (Strong Pass) and above, and 47% achieved a Grade 7 and above in 2022, which is significantly above the national average. The department has a strong track record for developing staff, their teaching and achieving outstanding outcomes in a supportive environment.
