Job overview

We are looking for a motivated and inspiring teacher to join our friendly and supportive team in a brilliant department.  Whether you are an NQT looking for an encouraging first school or an established teacher looking for further responsibilities we would like to hear from you. We would encourage you to come and visit our school and meet the staff and students however and our school website will give you a good idea of what it would be like to join the teaching team at St Birinus.

The role is a full time position and we are able to offer a varied teaching timetable, which suits your experience and aspirations, and can include responsibilities and roles within the English faculty or the school as a whole.

The school has a reputation for dynamic and innovative Teaching and Learning – and we welcome applications from candidates who will be able to contribute to this ethos.  The English Faculty has excellent student outcomes both at GCSE and A Level and English is a very popular course in the Sixth Form so there are potential opportunities for A Level teaching for those interested.

St Birinus School is judged to be a Good school with students meeting the school’s high expectations (OFSTED Report February 2020). The OFSTED reports states “St Birinus School is a vibrant and inspiring place for pupils to learn. Pupils are very proud of their school. They feel it is a friendly and welcoming place where they really feel valued.”

St Birinus is in the top 5% of all schools nationally for boys’ progress which accurately reflects our aspirational expectations and ethos.

The secondary school has a wide range of activities for students to embrace, including teams, bands, clubs and productions for pupils of all abilities, aptitudes and interests. From weightlifting to Warhammer (both of which are extremely popular), there is something for everyone.

Ofsted report

“Most pupils are confident about whether they are on track to achieve their target grade and if not what they need to do to improve… Pupils are safe and well cared for in the school. There are good procedures in place and policies are regularly reviewed; record-keeping is comprehensive and all staff training is up to date. Governors are also appropriately trained and knowledgeable about safeguarding, meeting regularly with school staff so that they have good oversight of the procedures and practices in place.”
