Job overview

Teacher of English

Full time to start September 2019

Would you like to join a team that is passionate about their subject and driven by a desire to foster a love of literature in their pupils?  Are you keen to contribute to both high standards of academic success and lively contributions to the cultural life of the school?

The English department at GHS has a dynamic working atmosphere and it has traditionally allowed its members some autonomy in teaching an agreed and regularly revised internal syllabus, which prioritises marrying creativity with rigour. Drama is an integral part of the Years 7 to 9 syllabus.

Most members of the department teach across a variety of age groups, from Year 7 to the Sixth Form.  Recent examination results have been impressive, with most girls achieving A* and A grades in English Language, English Literature and Drama, at GCSE, AS and A’ level.

Applications are welcome from experienced teachers, NQTs or those wishing to obtain Initial Teacher Training via the School Direct programme.  Further information about the ITT programme may be found at: http://unitedteaching.org.uk/

We can offer you:

  • a friendly and supportive staff team who work collaboratively, sharing resources and ideas
  • competitive salary, well above the national scale
  • excellent facilities
  • regular professional development and well-being opportunities throughout the year
  • your own iPad
  • access to employee benefits and advice services.

Further information is contained in the application pack. To apply, either complete the TES application form or download and complete the GHS application form from our website: http://www.guildfordhigh.co.uk/currentvacancies

The Human Resources department may be contacted via e-mail: Human.Resources@guildfordhigh.co.uk

The closing date for applications is 09.00 on Monday 25th February 2019.

GHS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all who work at the School to share this commitment.  Successful applicants will be subject to child protection screening appropriate to the post including an enhanced disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and checks with previous employers.
