St Damian’s is a heavily oversubscribed Roman Catholic Science College which is committed to the professional development of staff and promoting the welfare of children.

We are seeking a well qualified, enthusiastic and innovative teacher of English. This post would also be suitable for an NQT or a teacher already on the MPS. The person we are looking for will further develop the English Department and be committed to enthusing children of all abilities, be passionate about teaching and learning and will be supportive of the College’s Catholic ethos. It is a very exciting time to be joining the St Damian’s community. Our August 2017 results were the best in our history. Figures show that St Damian’s was the top school in Tameside in many measures including % of pupils achieving 4+ in English and Maths and % of pupils achieving 5+ in English and Maths. Furthermore, our standard Ebacc was 61% with a strong Ebacc figure of 49%. This follows on from a very positive Ofsted report March 2014!

St Damian’s is situated on the Tameside and Oldham border and is widely recognised for the quality of care it provides for all pupils and the professional opportunities afforded to all colleagues. The College is committed to safeguarding children and expects all staff to share this commitment.

St Damian’s RC Science College is a mixed, mainstream, Roman Catholic secondary school in Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire. It caters to students aged 11 to 16 and has approximately 770 pupils enrolled. 

Founded in 1963, St Damian’s RC Science College is administered by Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Salford. It has been awarded science college status.

Vision and values

St Damian’s RC Science College’s motto is "Faithful in all things". The school’s main aim is to provide a caring, supportive environment where each pupil can begin to love the art of learning and fulfil their academic potential. 

The secondary school strives to help each student develop into a mature, responsible and Christian adult. Staff provide opportunities to take part in acts of worship throughout the year, as well as charity activities. The pastoral system is based on a culture of respect and focuses on the welfare and achievement of students. 

The curriculum concentrates on the core subjects of maths, RE, PE, English and science. Other subjects include art and design, performing arts, product design, nutrition and construction.

“The curriculum is well matched to students’ needs. There is a small and appropriate offer of vocational subjects but the mainstay of the curriculum is traditional and academic. Students receive good quality information, advice and guidance involving their parents. There is a good range of extra-curricular activities on offer.”
