The school and role

The Koc school is a large bilingual K-12 school situated on the outskirts of the vibrant and exciting city of Istanbul, Turkey. The school is very ambitious in its vision, with candidates accepting offers from the top universities in both Turkey and overseas. The English Department numbers 17 teachers in total.

The Koc school is an excellent place to develop professionally. As the entry criteria for the Turkish students is extremely demanding, teachers get to work with bright and enthusiastic students and ignite their passion for further study. The school is set on the outskirts of Istanbul in an idyllic countryside location, and the campus is fully comprehensive, with lovely accommodation as well as amazing facilities such as a sports centre, football pitch and swimming pools.
Istanbul is a vibrant and energetic city famous for bridging the East and West. One of Europe’s most cosmopolitan and culturally rich cities, it’s a wonderful place to live and offers an excellent quality of life for teachers.

The successful candidate will be required to inspire and challenge students and prepare them for examination. The successful candidate will be expected to teach within the High School range (Grades 9-12), including ‘IB’ Diploma classes in Language & Literature.

Requirements

The school is looking for fully qualified / certified teachers who have at least two years of teaching experience. For visa purposes, applicants must have a degree in their subject and their teacher training specialism must be in their subject as well. Therefore, you will need an undergraduate degree in English Language or Literature, a full teaching award equivalent to PGCE or BEd and experience of teaching university entrance courses such as ‘A’ level, ‘IB,’  ‘AP’ or equivalent.
All teaching in the subject is conducted in English. The school caters for the very young children of its teachers (birth to five years) and those ready for the ‘IB’ Diploma post 16. It isn’t suitable for those of intermediate age.

About The Koc School

 The Koc School is a private school in Istanbul, Turkey. The city of Istanbul is the largest in Turkey, with a population of 14.8 million in the metropolitan municipality. Koç School is located on a 750-acre campus on the eastern outskirts of Istanbul, near Tuzla, The school was founded by Vehbi Koç, one of the wealthiest businessmen in Turkey. Founded in 1988, the school has since expanded to approximately 2,115 students on the school roll. The Koc School has a limited boarding school provision. Students are taught on a bi-lingual Turkish/English basis, with extra language focus on German and French. The school’s motto is ‘reason, conscience, courage’, and its colours are red and black.

The school has taught the International Baccalaureate programme since 1994, and is incorporated under the Vehbi Koç Foundation. School facilities include laboratories, auditorium, music rooms, student lounges, and cafeteria. The expanded library has been based adjacent to the main school since 2002. Sporting facilities include Tennis Courts, Sports Centre, swimming pools, and a football pitch.
