Job overview

We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and inspiring classroom practitioner with a real passion for English. We offer an exciting opportunity to enhance an already highly successful, supportive and motivated team.

This role would be an ideal opportunity for a recently qualified or experienced teacher to work in a very successful school and access excellent professional development in the form of the extensive advice, support, resources, training and career opportunities available in the academy and across the Outwood Grange Family of Schools.

Outwood Grange Academy is an Academy of Excellence and a very high performing school. It is the founding school of the Outwood Grange Academies Trust, which operates primary and secondary academies in the region. Situated in Wakefield, close to both the M1 and M62, it is a large school (NOR 2150) with significant numbers in the Post-16 Centre where English A levels are a popular choice.

In 2016, 89% of students achieved A*-C in GCSE English.

In our last Ofsted inspection, we were judged outstanding in all areas including an outstanding judgment for overall effectiveness. Ofsted recognised that ‘Outstanding teaching is at the root of students’ excellent achievement’ and ‘the excellent behaviour of students contributes to an outstanding climate for learning’.

The Outwood Institute of Education, one of the first National Teaching Schools, provides world class professional development. Staff can access programmes such as the National Professional Qualification for Middle Leaders and Outstanding Teacher Programme as well as having the opportunity to engage with universal and national research projects.

We are an Outstanding rated, 11-18 academy based in the cathedral city of Wakefield, near Leeds.

The Outwood Family was born out of our academy’s success and we are proud that after our last inspection, Ofsted paid tribute to the ‘academy staff and leaders for the way they ensure you get the best education possible.’

We have nurtured a school community that is welcoming and friendly, where students and staff can make excellent progress together, with a focus on creating a culture of success, a positive climate for learning, and increased attainment, achievement and social and emotional development.

We believe our success speaks for itself as we are above the national average for the number of students achieving at a Grade 5 or above in English & maths GCSEs. We are also proud to have been awarded Gold Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
