ELIS Villamartín are looking a dynamic teacher of English Language, Literature and Drama to join our exciting, forward thinking team. At ELIS we are committed to deepening the teaching and learning skills of all staff who form part of our team. The school also is very proud of it's community wellbeing programmes and would suit applicants with initiative, agency and that value being part of a close-knit, multicultural educational environment. The location of our school affords many advantages to a teacher employed in this area of the Spanish Coast. This is a genuine career advancement opportunity for someone wanting move to a forward-thinking, truly International School of around 40 Nationalities.

This post requires a PGCE (or equivalent post-graduate certificate)-qualified teacher experienced in the teaching of English across KS3, KS4 and preferably KS5 alongside Drama to at least KS4: Some experience in preparing students for public examination is necessary. English at ELIS is a strong area of the curriculum and the student body (mostly second language learners) enjoy considerable success in both first and second language English and English Literature, as well as in Drama which is taught in specialist facilities. The successful post-holder would also be expected to take the lead in continuing the ELIS tradition of producing high-quality school theatre productions. The post represents a genuine career advancement opportunity for a suitably qualified teacher because it will, following an induction period, include specific curriculum development responsibilities.

The ELIS Villamartín English department has been under stable leadership for many years whilst consisting of three additional teachers with immense energy and skill. The successful applicant would be the school's only specialist Drama teacher, but would of course be an integral member of the English department. Because our school is part of the Cognita group, all teachers have strong networking links with subject specialists in our other schools (over 50 across Europe) and there are limitless possibilities for sharing, moderation and professional learning.

As well as meeting the requirements of the general candidate specification, the successful candidate will be highly self-motivated, able to work independently and be very well organized. Some experience as an Assistant Examiner would be an advantage but is not essential.

El Limonar International School (ELIS) Villamartín is an educational environment that prides itself on continuous professional improvement: Teaching and Learning input permeates school life with the aim of developing conversations about, and sharing of, high-quality pedagogical practice. We are committed to deepening the teaching and learning skills of all staff who form part of our community. The location of the school affords many advantages to a teacher employed in the area including well-priced accommodation, low living costs (80% of the UK average) and the glory and variety of the Spanish coastline.

ELIS has been providing a high quality bilingual education for Spanish and international students from Early Years to KS5 in the Alicante and Murcia regions, in southern Spain, for more than thirty years. With the appointment of new school leaders a decade ago, both the ELIS Murcia and ELIS Villamartín schools underwent significant development in order to ensure that they remained the region’s top international schools for the next quarter century and beyond. Since then, the two ELIS schools have developed as the British curriculum schools of reference for the area. At present both schools are run by their own Headteachers who both report directly to the Assistant Director of Education of Cognita schools across Spain and Italy.

El Limonar International School, as part of the Cognita Schools group, is an equal opportunities employer that welcomes applications from all UK qualified and Internationally qualified teachers with relevant experience, including teaching couples. Teachers would be expected to contribute to the extra-curricular life of the school and a working knowledge of the Spanish language would be an advantage but is not a necessity. Contracts are full time and permanent with remuneration and working conditions that reflect the Spanish national collective bargaining agreement for private education.

The closing date for applications is flexible and an appointment would be made promptly in order to secure a high-quality candidate. Applications require candidates tosubmit a completed teacher application form (a copy of which is included in this advert). Candidates are also required to submit an application letter addressed to, Mr Jon Wayth: incoming Headteacher at ELIS Villamartín, and may also send a C.V. (with photograph) if they wish. Applications can be submitted through the ‘Apply Now’ button included in this advert.

All applications should include the name, email and contact telephone number of three referees, one of which must be the candidate’s current Headteacher. The referees must cover at least the last five years of the candidate’s employment history.

Long-listed candidates will be notified and invited to an initial interview by Skype. Final interview will take place either online or in Spain by arrangement.
