Job overview

Brentford School for Girls is a vibrant and multi-cultural comprehensive school providing outstanding education for girls in Hounslow and a number of neighbouring boroughs. Our last Ofsted report (February 2016) recognised the school as being a good school with many excellent features. In 2016, we were identified in the DFE top 100 schools for the progress our students have made.

We are looking for an outstanding English Teacher with a proven track record of raising standards and who has the energy, enthusiasm and skills to lead change and drive further the success of the department. This post would suit a strong team player who has had experience of teaching English at A level, and who is also keen to get more involved in leading a very successful department within the school. The appointed candidate will join the Head of Department in leading a strong team of outstanding and enthusiastic teachers, in ensuring that English continues to be a successful and high achieving department within the school. Previous experience of ‘leading’ is not required as full training will be provided.

Brentford School for Girls is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful candidates will be appointed subject to satisfactory references and DBS checks.

Values and vision

The Brentford School for Girls has a commitment to academic excellence and personal well-being. Success lies in the close and safe community that flourishes at the secondary school, and in the excellent relationships that exist between staff and students.

GCSE examination results consistently place the school as one of the highest achieving in both Hounslow and nationwide. A-level students achieve exceptionally well and many students in the sixth form are accepted into the best universities in the country, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Brentford girls are encouraged to be ambitious, think big and have high expectations of themselves. The school vision is to develop students into confident, ambitious, resilient young women.

Ofsted report

“The school is a small, friendly and culturally diverse community. Every girl is known well; as one pupil said, ‘We are like a family.’ The school’s ethos that ‘every child counts’ permeates throughout the life of the school. Staff work hard to ensure that individual pupils make good academic progress, and that they are safe and well cared for.”
