TEACHER OF ESOL

Required for September 2017

Main or Upper Pay Spine £22,465 - £38,248

Hamilton has undergone an enormous amount of change in recent years: a significantly increased number of our students now need support with the development of their understanding, and use, of English in order to be able to access the curriculum

Consequently we are now looking to appoint an outstanding teacher with a track record of enabling young people for whom English is an additional language to achieve. If appointed to this role you will be a key player in helping young people who are new to English to develop the language skills that will help them whilst at school and throughout their lives.

If you have the ability to inspire students, to work in a highly effective team with your colleagues, to strive for excellence in all that you do, and to help to further develop teaching for EAL students at Hamilton in the years ahead then we want to hear from you. A visit to the school will show you what a vibrant and interesting student body we have, and our plans for how to help them to achieve success in the curriculum.

Hamilton College is an extremely rewarding school in which to teach   there is an exceptionally caring ethos which is at the forefront of our work, and a clear commitment to provide quality education for our diverse intake of pupils.  Recent changes in leadership mean the school is on a journey of rapid improvement working with Rushey Mead Education Trust, and the successful candidate will be a key part of this success.

Hamilton College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  All appointments are subject to satisfactory references, enhanced DBS and health screening.

Values and vision

Hamilton College's stated aim is: “Every pupil achieves their very best and feels secure." Teachers want students to leave the school as aspirational, mature and confident young adults. The secondary school strives to encourage all children to achieve to the best of their ability and believes that everyone has the potential to succeed.

Hamilton College offers a variety of study support clubs to encourage pupils' academic, sporting and creative talents. The school also offers a wide range of trips and activities beyond the classroom. These have included visits to the European Parliament in Brussels and annual on-site activities such as the annual Fitness and Fun Week. An active student council works to represent the voices of pupils, helping them to get involved in decision-making at the school.

Ofsted report

“Leaders have provided a wide range of extra-curricular activities to enable pupils to extend their experience beyond the curriculum. These opportunities enable pupils to develop their understanding of the world around them, including understanding cultural diversity. They also enable the most able to explore the academic interests that they are unable to pursue in the school due to the narrow curriculum, particularly in science."
