Job overview

Thank you for expressing an interest in the post of Teacher of Food and Catering.

The Milton Keynes Academy (MKA) is an Academy with strong links in the community. Our Academy is underpinned by an ethos based on raising aspirations, raising achievement and providing opportunities, so that we realise our mission of Everyone Achieves. We are relentless in our pursuit of high standards and excellence and emphasise traditional core values of good behaviour, honesty and mutual respect.

MKA is a vibrant and rapidly improving Academy (Ofsted judgement Good with Outstanding Leadership and Management April 2014) with outstanding facilities. We cater for 1400 students aged 11-19 and welcome students of all abilities. Our aim is to maximise the potential of all our learners and be at the heart of the community.

The Food room is housed within the specialist Art & Design village where all classrooms have an Interactive White Board, desktop computer and a visualiser enabling you to deliver engaging lessons. Outside of the classrooms we have a computer suite that can also be utilised. The working environment is excellent and innovative in design with very well resourced work areas. Student success and displays of work are prominent. Furthermore, you will benefit from a highly organised curriculum plan where all lessons are planned and stored on the Academy's online curriculum, Moodle and Sharepoint.

We currently offer Food as part of a carousel of activities within years 7 and 8 and in KS4 we currently deliver the Food Preparation and Nutrition GCSE, but we are also evaluating other suitable Catering vocational qualifications.

You will be stepping into a department of 7 teachers with a range of skills and abilities, managed by a Head of Art & Design who is supported by a Deputy. From the moment you join us you will feel welcomed and supported by an experienced and varied team. As part of your induction into the Academy and the Art & Design department you will be assigned a mentor who will support and guide you through your early days.

You will be welcomed into the Milton Keynes Academy Team, who are wholly focused on teaching and learning. As a member of the team you will be well supported through a comprehensive programme of induction, training, coaching and mentoring to ensure you continue to develop as a teacher.

This is an exciting opportunity for a committed professional, holding Qualified Teacher Status, to join the team. The ability to work in other disciplines within Art & Design Technology would be desirable.

If you are a talented professional with passion, commitment and resilience, and if you are driven to make a difference to the lives and futures of young people, we would like to hear from you. Please contact Keith Cromwell, Head of Art & Design Village, for more information on 01908 341700 or email us at careers@miltonkeynesacademy.co.uk
