Notre Dame School are seeking an exceptional Part Time Teacher of Food, Nutrition and Textiles to join us in January 2020 on a permanent basis.

 We are looking for a practitioner who plans and produces interesting and effective lessons supported by the Head of Food. The post-holder will teach some Textiles and some Food and Nutrition to Key Stages 3 and 4. At Key Stage 3 the students have an hour a week for Textiles and Food and Nutrition (swapping between subjects in February each year). At GCSE students can choose either or both subjects and have four hours of lessons per week.

Knowledge and Experience

  • To maintain high standards of pupil achievement
  • To foster enthusiasm for Textiles / Food and Nutrition
  • Has a thorough up to date subject knowledge
  • Has a thorough knowledge of the national curriculum and public examination syllabuses as appropriate
  •  Plans and produces interesting, varied and effective lessons, with clear and appropriate objectives
  • Sets appropriate and challenging tasks
  • Understands and builds on pupils’ previous experience
  • Marks work regularly and promptly, in accordance with the school’s assessment policy
  • Uses assessments to inform future planning
  • Communicates professionally with parents. Participates in the planning and development of the subject within the department under the direction of Head of Department
  • Aspires to the aims set out in the Policy on Teaching and Learning
  • Maintains high standards of discipline, behaviour and courtesy
  • Provides a positive role model for students through own personal conduct
  • Participates in the school’s Professional Review and Development Scheme, taking a pro-active role in own continuing professional development
  • Carries out a reasonable extra-curricular school activity and duties as assigned each year
  • To liaise closely with the Head of Department and other departments in the school

Skills and Abilities

  • Educated to Degree standard or equivalent
  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Ability to teach Textiles / Food and Nutrition at Key Stage 3 and 4
  • Planning and teaching of well-structured lessons that impart knowledge, develop understanding and promote intellectual curiosity
  • Good practical skills
  • Good organisational skills that enable good relationships with adults and young people
  • Interpersonal skills
  • To be self-motivated
  • An ability to judge when to show initiative and when to ask for advice

Salary:  Competitive
