Job Description


The main duties are as follows:

(a) teaching assigned classes together with associated preparation and correction

(b) developing the school curriculum

(c) assessing, recording and reporting the work of pupils

(d) preparing pupils for examinations and assisting with their administration

(e) providing advice and guidance to pupils on issues related to their education

(f) promoting and safeguarding the health, welfare and safety of pupils

(g) working in partnership with parents, support staff and other professionals

(h) undertaking appropriate and agreed Continuing Professional Development

(i) participating in issues related to school planning, raising achievement and individual review

(j) contributing towards good order and the wider needs of the school

 Elgin High School is a co-educational, non-denominational six year comprehensive in Moray, Scotland. As of the most recent census there were 576 pupils on the school roll. The school’s catchment area spreads from south Elgin to the adjoining rural areas or Longmorn, Birnie and Miltonduff. The school first opened in 1978, and in 1996 the Kestrel House annex was opened to accommodate a small number of special needs students. The school is located close to Jack N Jill Pre-School Centre, and 7.5 miles from the coastline. The region of Moray is located in northern Scotland, situated between the council territories of Aberdeenshire and the Highlands.

The Elgin School motto is ‘working together for success’. The school works as a community, with staff string to ensure each and every pupils is motivated and invigorated in their quest to fulfil their individual potential. 

Integral to the school’s mission is the Support for Learning Department, which works to have tailored approach to each student’s learning provisions. As well as a collaborative approach between students, staff and parents, Elgin High School works closely with Gordonstoun School and their Community Service pupils as well as local businesses such as the Moray Food Bank.

Partners, such as community learning and development staff, make a strong contribution to extending opportunities for a few young people to achieve. Teachers are developing the new curriculum well, using the principles outlined in Curriculum for Excellence.”
