Southfield School is an excellent girls’ school with a vibrant Sixth Form, with a record of above average progress 8 scores for the past 3 years. French is offered at all 3 Key Stages with just over half the cohort at KS4 being entered for French GCSE. Every year there has been a small, but growing, group of students continuing their study at KS5.
This successful department is a friendly, hard-working team, committed to stimulating students’ interest and enjoyment in their studies in addition to producing good examination results. In 2019 89% of year 11 students who studied GCSE French achieved grades 9-4 at GCSE, well above the national average for girls as well as above their targets. Students’ progress in French is good with a team ethos of collaborative planning and shared resources. The school has a key focus on staff wellbeing and has numerous initiatives in place to support this. They include time for planning off-site for all teachers, yoga sessions and many more. We are preparing all of our students for a world of exciting possibilities. At Southfield, we place significant emphasis on working collegiately as a staff to share our expertise and subsequently enhance the learning experience with our students. Every member of the staff is involved in a variety of professional learning programmes that take place every Wednesday across the academic year. All teachers are members of the Chartered College of Teaching. We are seeking to appoint an inspirational, highly motivated and innovative committed teacher of French. The successful candidate will be able to teach throughout all key stages 3, 4 and 5 with support for A Level teaching being given to newly qualified teachers. The vacancy is available from September 2020.
