Job overview

An outstanding opportunity has arisen to work in Gloucestershire’s largest comprehensive school.

We are an established 11-18 single academy trust with a good reputation (Ofsted ‘Good’ rating 2022), wide catchment, and a strong presence in our community. Our school is consistently oversubscribed with a PAN of 300, and most of our students choose to stay with us for their post-16 study.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Teacher of Geography & Religious Studies.

The successful candidate will be a key part of both teams and will contribute to the strengths of the department. They will teach highly motivated and talented pupils from Year 7 to 13, planning and preparing courses and lessons according to their educational needs and providing guidance and advice on their further education and future careers. In Religious Studies, you will also deliver our non-assessed Religion and Worldviews lessons to Key Stage 4.

You will be joining lively and enthusiastic departments, at Cheltenham Bournside School, where both Geography and RS are very popular subjects at both GCSE, with 10 Geography and 3 Religious Studies classes in Year 10 and 11 and A Level with 2 classes in both Year 12 and 13 for both subjects.

You will be joining a Geography department consisting of the Head of Geography Rachel Spooner and 4 other specialist teachers and an RS department consisting of Head of RS Tom Playfair and 3 other specialist teachers.

The annual department results for both subjects at GCSE and A Level are excellent, with a number of students continuing to study the subject at University. Alumni are also invited back into school to talk about their experiences at University and the world of work.

Both departments believe in developing learning outside of the classroom with trips to Bristol, London as well as more locally in Cheltenham. All teachers will take part and contribute to these trips and we welcome new ideas for developing our current fieldwork offer.

Our annual department results at both GCSE and A Level are excellent, with a number of students continuing to study the subject at University. Alumni are also invited back into school to talk about their experiences at University and the world of work.

For further information about the role and details on how to apply please see our Candidate Information Pack.

We are an equal opportunities employer and value and respect diversity across our whole school community. Bournside is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All posts are subject to an enhanced DBS check. We reserve the right to interview and appoint prior to the closing date.
