Teacher of GEOGRAPHY - FROM SEPTEMBER 2017 The Compton is a massively oversubscribed mixed multi-ethnic school that has had three outstanding OFSTED inspections in succession. During the last inspection we were awarded 24 outstanding grades for all areas inspected. The Compton has a national profile for excellence in teaching and learning, in leadership, and for student outcomes. The school has recently expanded to include a 6th Form. In 2016, 77% of students gained 5+A*- C, including, English and Maths at GCSE. Our results routinely put the school within the top 3% of schools nationally for progress. We are seeking to appoint a qualified and motivated teacher of Geography, who is able to demonstrate a range of teaching skills. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic teacher who is passionate about their subject. Uptake at KS4 is exceptionally high and reflects students’ enjoyment of the subject at KS3. Geography is taught in mixed ability groupings. In 2016, 76% of students gained A*-C grades in Geography. The appointed candidate will be well supported by an excellent induction programme. “Teaching in the school is first rate because of the attention to detail teachers pay to planning fascinating lessons. The outstanding teaching encourages pupils to work extremely hard and respond well to all they are asked to do. Standards overall are outstanding. All indicators point to a year-on-year rise in standards. Pupils gain just above average results in English, mathematics and science in the national tests at the end of Year 9, but by the time they reach Y11 their GCSE results are impressive and significantly above average. Pupils' achievement is outstanding because they fully meet their challenging targets and the high expectations set for them.”
