In 1801, His Royal Highness Frederick Duke of York laid the foundation stone in Chelsea of what was to become The Duke of York's Royal Military School, a school for the children of military personnel which opened in 1803. Then in 1909, the school relocated to its present site in Dover, Kent and in 2010, we became the first full state boarding academy, opening our doors to any family wishing to choose this unique and iconic school for their child’s secondary education. The School maintains its proud and distinguished military connections and traditions; its guiding principles are based on the 6 core British Military values of Commitment, Courage, Self-Discipline, Respect, Integrity and Loyalty. They shape all we do as Dukies; from the classroom, to the sports field, to stage performance to the parade square
This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative teacher of Geography to join our rapidly expanding and highly successful Humanities Faculty.
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic teacher of Geography and a model of engaging and ambitious practice. You will have experience of teaching Key Stages 3 and 4, with A-level a significant advantage. You will contribute to the continued development of teaching and learning, building upon the excellent foundations already established. You will be committed to ensuring an aspirational, relevant and exciting curriculum is delivered to all our students. We encourage applications from ECTs
In addition, the successful candidate will be required to play an active role in boarding school life, including: tutoring; clubs and activities during the day; boarding duties in the evenings and at weekends. In return, a DOYRMS allowance of £5,667 per annum will be payable. Three bedroomed accommodation may be available on site at a fair rent.
Teachers receive generous PPA allowances, use of School facilities including the swimming pool and fitness suite, alongside independent support through Health Assured. All teachers are provided with a laptop to support their work. Average class sizes are low. There is a wide ranging CPD programme to support professional development in the academic and pastoral spheres.

The Duke of York’s Royal Military School is a mixed, non-denominational, state secondary boarding school with sixth form situated in Dover, Kent. It is a sponsor-led academy supported by a single-academy trust. A smaller than average secondary school, it provides 500+ places for students between the ages of 11 and 18 when fully subscribed.
The Duke of York’s Royal Military School has roots going back to the early 19th century. It was first built in 1801 by the Duke of York in Chelsea, before relocating to its current Dover site in 1908. The school reopened as an academy in September 2010, becoming the first full state boarding academy. Both the current school and its predecessor have links with the military.

The Duke of York’s Royal Military School was previously only open to children whose parents were members of the armed forces in the UK, but entry was extended to civilian families when the school converted to academy status.
