Job overview

Teacher of Geography (1-year Maternity Cover from August 2017)

Dollar Academy is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic teacher of Geography for session 2017 – 2018 to cover a maternity absence. The successful applicant will have a passion for the world about them and will be expected to stimulate similar interest in, and enjoyment of, geographical studies in their pupils.

Dollar Academy is set in a beautiful central location, about 40 minutes north of Edinburgh. This post is a maternity cover, but the successful candidate is likely to be guaranteed a full year in post, starting in August 2017.  The post is advertised as full time, but a part-time position may be possible. We would also welcome applications from probationary teachers.

The Geography Department consists of three classrooms housed in the main building of the school. The department is well resourced with digital whiteboards, numerous IT accessories and extensive fieldwork equipment. The present teaching team consists of three teachers who all actively contribute to departmental policy and resources and form a small collaborative team.

The department is seeking to appoint a qualified teacher who would be able to teach Geography from S1 to Advanced Higher level in collaboration with others.

Currently, there are two Advanced Higher Geography classes, two Higher Geography classes, one Higher Environmental Science class and two S4 classes sitting the new National 5 qualification. Within this group of pupils, teachers are expected to promote an ethos of achievement and success, meeting the needs of all pupils. This will be underpinned with exemplary teaching skills and excellent subject knowledge. There is a strong ethos of teamwork within the department and the successful applicant will be expected to work effectively as part of this friendly and well-established team.

The Academy has a rich co-curricular programme in which all members of staff are expected to participate. The ability to coach a team in one of the school’s major sports, or offer an activity, would be particularly useful.

The salary for the post will be in accordance with the SNCT main grade scales with the Dollar enhancement of 10% in addition. It should be noted that the Chartered Teachers pay scale does not apply to teachers employed by the Academy.

Candidates should either be registered with the GTC Scotland, or eligible for registration.

Applicants must complete the Academy’s Teaching Staff Application Form which can be downloaded from the Academy’s website www.dollaracademy.org.uk and provide a covering letter. A CV is optional.

These should be emailed to recruitment@dollaracademy.org.uk

The closing date is noon on Friday 5 May 2017.

All appointments are subject to receipt of a satisfactory PVG Scheme Record or Scheme Record Update from Disclosure Scotland.
