Job overview

Tes are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Teacher of Geography on a part-time fixed term basis from April 2021. Both experienced and newly qualified teachers are encouraged to apply.

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the UK’s leading independent schools for boys and girls aged 3 to 18. Set within a 75-acre site, in the heart of Brentwood town, and a direct train ride from London Stratford station, the schools campus provides a stimulating environment for innovative teaching and a first-class education. The facilities are of the highest quality across all areas - academic, arts and sport. It has around 1800 students, making it larger than the average school of its type, and just over 1200 of these students are in the Senior School, which includes approximately 70 boarding pupils.

It is an excellent place to work and extremely well-located. Picturesque grounds and state of the art facilities make for a wonderful and inspiring learning and working environment. The campus is in the centre of Brentwood and a walk away from all the cultural, retail, gastronomic and nightlife facilities it has to offer. It is a mere 40 minutes to London from Brentwood Rail Station and 20 minutes from Shenfield Station, and with Crossrail due for completion in 2021, passengers will be able to reach Central & West London without having to change.

The school are seeking to recruit an outstanding, enthusiastic, qualified graduate to teach Geography in a well-equipped department. This is for one term Maternity Cover and part-time (0.6), with the possibility of this being extended. The successful candidate will be able to teach Geography at KS3, GCSE and A Level and will join a thriving Geography Department with eight teaching staff. It is excellently resourced with books, teaching materials and digital equipment. Geography is a very popular choice of subject with pupils - both at GCSE and in the Sixth Form where it is studied within the context of the IBDP and A Level programme.

The successful candidate will also be expected to assist in the support offered to pupils outside the classroom. Furthermore, all teaching staff are expected to participate fully in the wider life of the School through co-curricular involvement.

The Successful Candidate:

  • Degree in Geography or closely related discipline
  • Qualified teacher status (desired)
  • Commitment to the success of every pupil studying Geography in the school
  • A perceptive and reflective practitioner in the classroom
  • Dynamic communicator who has demonstrable enthusiasm for their subject
  • Flexible and enthusiastic

School Benefits:

  • Support many staff in obtaining external accreditation across a range of fields and are engaged with a number of national and international organisations
  • Highly supportive school that values the contributions made by a motivated and intellectually curious staff
  • There are a range of ways that the school enhance staff experience; free gym membership, benefits hub, free lunch, free tickets to school concerts and performance to name but a few
  • It has its own pay scale that is significantly above the maintained sector and also have a range of staff accommodation that may be available for the successful applicant should they need to relocate
