Job overview

Thank you for your interest in Blue Coat Church of England Academy. I am delighted that you are considering joining our team at this exciting stage in our journey.

We are part of the Blue Coat Family of schools, but operate as a standalone following conversion in 2012. As a Church of England Academy with profound ideals based upon our Christian foundation, we strive to introduce Christian aspects of teaching into all that we do. During College Form time each day all students participate in a daily act of Worship which includes prayer and time for reflection. There is also a weekly worship in St. Matthew’s Church when the whole Academy gathers to enjoy thought provoking talks and performances.

Together we create a positive and challenging learning environment that encourages high expectations.  We are an 11-18 Academy that was described by OFSTED (January 2018) as a good school. We are proud to have been recognised as a flagship school and have held the Inclusion Quality Mark since July 2013.

Due to growing numbers of student intake we are seeking a teacher of Geography; that is committed and keen to assist us in establishing a happy, vibrant school. The successful candidate will be a committed team player who is hard working, conscientious and performs to a high standard in all aspects of the role.

You must be a positive role model for our young people, with a distinct ability to inspire pupils and staff. You will be ambitious for yourself and all of our staff and pupils and contribute in flexible ways that will ensure we go beyond what schools ordinarily do.

You will have energy, courage and self-belief in your ability to assist in the delivery of our vision. We require staff who are excited by this opportunity and who are ready to embrace this challenge, supporting us in delivering a great local school for our local community. For all of us, staff, Governors, children and parents, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to make a difference to pupils’ lives.

We hope you will be able to see your place in this story and come forward to apply for this exciting and pivotal role.

If you require any help or advice as you consider your application, please do not hesitate to contact the Principals PA Lucy Lakin: st-lakin-l@bluecoatacademy.org

Values and vision

Walsall Blue Coat Academy bases its ideals upon its Christian foundation and strives to introduce Christian aspects of teaching into all that it does.

For instance, during form time each day all students participate in a daily act of worship which includes prayer and time for reflection. Regular meetings are also held for staff and students, during which prayers are said and thoughts are focused on people in need. Certain students are also instrumental in spreading the word of Christianity through, for example, taking assemblies to junior schools.

Walsall Blue Coat Academy also has dedicated itself to striving to foster a caring attitude towards the wider global community. Indeed, each year the school raises money for a charity voted for by all students. In 2015, students raised over £4,400 for Teenage Cancer Trust.

Ofsted

“The curriculum is good and its focus on developing students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding is excellent. The academy prepares students very well for life in modern democratic Britain, and its focus on developing community cohesion is exemplary. Governors and academy sponsors provide very good support for academy leaders.”
