We consistently deliver strong academic outcomes, regularly adding at least 0.5 of a grade Value Added at both IGCSE and A Level. Our students achieve places at top universities in the UK—such as Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, Durham and UCL—as well as internationally, including the University of Chicago, Georgetown, Bocconi in Milan and the IE Business School Madrid.
The School was established to offer a progressive education in the heart of London, balancing academic rigour with creativity, collaboration, and personal development. The department benefits from subject-specific classrooms, excellent digital resources, and a rich co-curricular programme including fieldwork and Model United Nations. We follow the AQA specification across all key stages.
This post offers an exciting opportunity for a talented educator—either newly qualified or with experience—looking to develop their career in a forward-thinking and supportive independent school. Staff at Wetherby Senior join from both the maintained and independent sectors, and we warmly welcome colleagues from diverse professional backgrounds.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver engaging and high-quality Geography lessons, maintaining strong progress across all key stages.
- Teach Geography to GCSE and A Level, using AQA specifications.
- Plan and assess effectively, using data to inform teaching and providing meaningful feedback.
- Support pupils with diverse learning needs and foster an inclusive classroom environment.
- Contribute to departmental development through meetings, shared resources, and curriculum planning.
- Stay up to date with subject knowledge and participate actively in INSET and CPD.
- Play a key role in enrichment, including fieldwork trips, lectures, and the Geography Scholars Programme.
- Support the school’s Model United Nations programme (experience or interest is welcome).
- Support the pastoral care system, including tutor responsibilities and supervision duties.
- Contribute to the broader life of the school through co-curricular activities and events.
- Uphold the school’s values and policies, especially in relation to safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusion.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- Excellent subject knowledge and academic qualifications.
- A passion for Geography and the ability to inspire students.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, parents, and colleagues.
- The ability to deliver dynamic, differentiated teaching across a full ability range.
- A genuine commitment to pastoral care and the safeguarding of young people.
- Skills or interests that can contribute to the wider co-curricular programme.
- Excellent organisational, administrative, and IT skills.
- A collaborative, reflective and professional approach to teaching and school life.

Our School
Wetherby Senior School is a thriving independent day school for boys aged 11-18 situated in the heart of London. Since opening in 2015 the School has grown and in September 2018 we welcomed our first cohort of Sixth Form pupils following very successful GCSE results. The School combines a rigorous academic education with an emphasis on developing the whole boy by giving him a broad educational experience and strong pastoral care.
We are an academically selective school and the main points of entry are 11+, 13+ and 16+. The School is divided into the Lower School (Years 7 to 8), Middle School (Years 9 to 11) and the Sixth Form with Heads of Section taking responsibility for each age group.
Wetherby Senior is a welcoming and dynamic place to work with a strong sense of community. The school invests in its staff with a programme of continual personal development. We seek to employ highly professional teachers with the ability and commitment to enhance the life of this School and to work effectively and collaboratively with all members of the School community to further develop the School. Our emphasis on educating the whole boy means that all members of staff, in due course, will be expected to contribute to the pastoral care of a group of students as a Form Tutor as well as contributing to the School’s co-curricular activities.
