Job overview

We're seeking an experienced Teacher of Humanities (Geography and History) for a Temporary Contract (maternity cover) . The is a full-time teaching role for Key Stages 3 & 4 levels in the British Curriculum, for two school terms only. The duration of the contract will be 8 months, commencing September 2025 and working to end of term in April 2026.

Regrettably, we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for short-term contracts and applicants should already have have the legal right to work in The Netherlands, through EU citizenship or a valid residency permit.

The Teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality lessons while supporting our students to achieve their best. The role also involves working as a Form Tutor in our pastoral team, and teaching PSHE (as required).

Roles and Responsibilities

· To plan and prepare curriculum for assigned timetabled classes and groups, taking into consideration the differing educational needs of the pupils

· To develop appropriate and differentiated schemes of work to ensure that the aims and objectives for the teaching of Geography and History are delivered

· To monitor and track pupils’ achievements at regular intervals subject to instructions of Head of Department or other senior colleagues

· To secure and sustain effective teaching of the subject, evaluate quality of teaching and standards of pupils’ achievements, and set targets for improvement

· To ensure the discipline and safety of all pupils in the assigned groups and classes

· To deliver high quality teaching and learning as well as curriculum development across the Key Stages

· To keep up-to-date about subject development and to take part in in-service training for this purpose

· Participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for internal and external examinations.

· Make provision for pupils of differing ability in all subjects

· Create a stimulating class environment which promotes effective teaching and learning

· Provide opportunities for the use of digital technology within the curriculum

· Create a culture of achievement where students wish to do their best and are rewarded for doing so

· To perform the roles and responsibilities of a form tutor and work closely with pastoral team to provide pastoral care and support the wellbeing of all pupils under their care

· To teach PSHE as part of the pastoral support programme

· To demonstrate and inspire an enthusiastic and committed approach to extra-curricular activities

· To participate in meetings which relate to the curriculum and organisation of the school

· To take part in the review, development and management of activities relating to the curriculum and organisation of the school, including supporting development & improvement plans

· To consult and liaise with parents and attend meetings arranged for that purpose

· To participate in professional development and training as required

· To be involved in the development and delivery of extra-curricular activities and enrichment opportunities across the Key Stages

· To work collaboratively with other members of the school, both within the curriculum and beyond

· To identify appropriate resources for the subject and ensure that they are used efficiently, effectively and safely. This includes off site facilities and school residential trips

· To develop and implement subject policies, plans, targets and practices within the context of the school’s aims and policies.

· Participate in the break duty rota, as assigned

· Undertake cover duties for colleagues as assigned

· To carry out such other duties as are necessary to meet the needs of the school and its pupils as directed by the Head of Senior School and Principal

Person Specification

· Ideally UK qualified teacher with a recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, B.Ed.)

· Minimum three years’ teaching experience, preferably in a UK School or in an international school for the British curriculum (or similar)

· Experience of teaching Geography & History at KS3 & KS4 levels

· Experience of teaching pupils with English as an additional language

· The ability to work with a range of pupils at all levels

· Excellent communication skills

· Good-humoured, positive, with good interpersonal skills

· Enthusiasm that inspires others

· Proficient IT skills

· A desire to work in an international school environment

· This teaching position is not suitable for NQTs
