Teacher of German

Cambridge International School in Bratislava, Slovakia, is seeking to appoint a passionate and inspirational Teacher of German to join a growing, dedicated and outstanding team of educators within a highly supportive and values-driven, but ambitious and expanding international school. This role is for August 2023 start.  The School  

CIS is constituted by a full Primary and Secondary School and is the focal campus of the Cambridge family, which currently includes four Cambridge International Kindergartens across Bratislava. 

CIS offers an outstanding International education, centred on the Cambridge Pathway and enhanced by the Slovak National Curriculum, but with a focus always on international best practice. The School itself is located in the charming and scenic Staré Mesto District, in a friendly and quiet residential area of Bratislava, near the beautiful Horský Park. CIS is fully licenced by the Slovak Ministry of Education.  

The Role

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and well-qualified Modern Foreign Languages teacher into our successful MFL department. The appointed candidate will:

• Use teaching methods which will engage students through careful planning, effective questioning, good use of resources and a style of delivery that promotes a love of learning; 

• Set high expectations for pupils’ behaviour, establishing and maintaining a positive approach to behaviour management through well focused teaching and productive relationships in accordance with the behaviour policy of the school; 

• Identify clear teaching objectives, content, structures and sequences of lessons appropriate to the educational needs of the students in his/her care; 

• Set appropriate, realistic yet challenging expectations for students’ learning, building on prior attainment/knowledge; 

• Prepare and present informative reports to parents in a professional manner in line with the school’s agreed assessment and monitoring procedures;

• Interact on a professional level with colleagues and seek to establish and maintain productive relationships in order to promote mutual understanding of the school curriculum with the aim of improving the quality of teaching and learning in the school; 

• Understand the importance of being a role model for learning within the school and throughout the wider community in line with our learner qualities;

The Desired Candidate

The desired candidate will need to be able to teach IGCSE level German as well as Key Stage 3. 

Fluency in both English and German are a prerequisite. A strong desire to contribute to the rich extra-curricular life of the department is also an advantage.

The successful candidate must above all be dedicated to educational excellence and international best practice. They should be creative, energetic, flexible and genuinely interested in students and consistently respectful of children, staff, parents and the wider community.

Initial contracts will be for a two-year fixed term, one year by agreement, with the possibility of future renewal by mutual agreement. As with most quality schools, we have a three month probationary period, details of which are clearly explained in employment contracts.
