Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and first-rate teacher of German to lead the delivery of German teaching at Uppingham.

This position could suit a highly qualified and ambitious NQT, or a more experienced teacher. Most teachers in the Modern Languages faculty teach a second language, and the ability to offer some French or Spanish teaching may be useful but is not essential.

German is taught in our purpose-built Languages Centre, where teachers make use of cutting-edge technology to promote cultural awareness and communication skills. The German department runs a programme of study visits and trips, and extracurricular activities such as society evenings and events.

Uppingham School offers several benefits such as a pension scheme, a 50% contribution to premiums for the School’s private health scheme, as well as free membership of the School’s dual-use Sports Centre and a school fee discount scheme for children of staff (75% discount on day fees).

Uppingham School has the highest ambitions for the education of our pupils. If you share our ambition and can inspire and challenge pupils to work at the highest academic levels we would be delighted to hear from you.

“Pupils demonstrate positive attitudes towards work and study. They have good literacy skills at all ages and articulate ideas and opinions fluently. Work is generally presented neatly and pupils’ note-taking is effective. They develop good numeracy skills and their capacity to think critically is notable. Creative abilities are well developed and their exploration of ideas is particularly marked in their enrichment activities. Pupils’ study habits are good. In the lessons observed, pupils worked very well with each other, and also worked well independently. They enjoy their work and this stems in part from the good-natured atmosphere in lessons. Pupils use information and communications technology (ICT) proficiently.”
