Job overview
We are looking for a passionate and committed teacher of German with French to join our vibrant Modern Languages team from September 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to inspire the next generation of linguists within a dynamic, forward-thinking and academically ambitious school.
Whether you’re an experienced teacher or just starting your career, we’re looking for someone who shares our belief that learning a language should be joyful, intellectually stimulating and deeply relevant to the world our pupils are growing up in. You’ll join a thriving and supportive department where ideas are shared freely, individuality is encouraged, and collaboration is at the heart of everything we do.
Languages have a long-standing and valued place at Habs. All our pupils learn French, German and Spanish in Year 7 before continuing with two in Years 8 and 9. All pupils study at least one language to GCSE and many continue to A Level. In the Sixth Form, enrichment courses in Russian, Italian and Japanese offer an additional window into new cultures and perspectives.
You’ll be based in our modern Taylor Building, where classrooms are light, spacious and well-equipped with the latest technology. The department office is a welcoming, professional space — somewhere to work, reflect and connect with colleagues. With eight full-time staff and dedicated Heads of French, German and Spanish, the team offers strength in depth, and all staff are encouraged to bring their own passions and ideas to the role.
The successful candidate will teach German across the age range, with the ability to teach French to GCSE. As well as being an outstanding linguist, you’ll need a genuine enthusiasm for teaching, a collaborative mindset, and a desire to see young people grow in confidence, fluency and cultural understanding.
We are proud to lead the North London Hub for the National Modern Languages SCITT and welcome a trainee into the department each year. The successful candidate will benefit from a culture of shared professional learning and will be supported to continually develop their practice — whether they are at the start of their teaching journey or looking for the next step in a fulfilling career.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a strong academic background and excellent subject knowledge.
- Is an enthusiastic and skilled classroom teacher with high expectations.
- Has the ability to motivate, challenge and support pupils to achieve their best.
- Enjoys working collaboratively and contributing to a strong departmental culture.
- Is keen to get involved in enrichment, trips and the co-curricular life of the school.
What we offer:
- A competitive salary, commensurate with the candidate’s experience and the size of the School
- Approximately 17 weeks holiday per year
- Private Pension Scheme through Aegon offers four flexible options, each with generous employer contributions
- Additional life insurance cover
- Access to the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), providing confidential support and advice
- Financial assistance for obtaining further qualifications
- Extensive professional development training opportunities
- Discount on school fees for children at any of the Elstree Schools (fee remission set at time of child joining)
- Free lunch and refreshments
- Free onsite parking and access to travel on the schools extensive coach network
- Free access to state-of-the-art sports facilities including the gym, swimming pool, and fitness classes
- Wellbeing initiatives and programmes, such as yoga, mindfulness sessions, and health checks
- Access to an online GP service, providing quick and convenient healthcare advice
- Access to Vivup, the staff benefits platform, featuring discounts, financial advice, and wellbeing resources
- Cycle-to-Work Scheme and other green travel incentives including Octopus Electric Vehicles
If you are a dynamic and committed Languages teacher looking to join a forward-thinking and well-resourced independent school, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Applications will be reviewed as they arrive, and we reserve the right to close this vacancy sooner, please apply as soon as possible.
