Job overview

Nicholas Breakspear Catholic School is rapidly expanding and the Governors are looking to appoint an energetic and inspirational Teacher of PE to join a dedicated and successful team to inspire students of all abilities to achieve their highest possible levels of attainment.  The post would ideally suit a Newly Qualified Teacher who will be expected to teach up to GSCE and applicants who can offer netball and dance will have a distinct advantage.   A commitment to raising the sporting profile of the school and to extra-curricular activities is essential to support the department’s growing reputation in competitive sports.

Nicholas Breakspear is a vibrant, nurturing and ambitious school. Situated on the outskirts of St Albans the school benefits from large spacious grounds and close links to London. Our recent interim Ofsted Inspection (Oct 21) stated “There is enough evidence of improved performance to suggest that the school could be judged outstanding if we were to carry out a section 5 inspection now”.  The 2019 GCSE results place the school in the top 10% of schools nationally. This role provides an excellent opportunity for someone to join a school which values inclusivity and kindness and which allows children to flourish and grow in confidence.

Nicholas Breakspear is a member of the Diocese of Westminster Academy Trust. We work together with the other schools in the trust to share best practice and to promote the development of staff and students. DOWAT is recognised as one of the top 10 academy trusts in the country.  The Diocese of Westminster Academy Trust and Nicholas Breakspear are fully committed to providing equal opportunities for all employees, workers, job applicants and pupils, and to eliminating unlawful and unfair discrimination.  It aims to create a culture that encourages and values diversity, and that appoints, rewards and promotes staff based on merit.

Nicholas Breaskpear is a Catholic school and we place great emphasis on the gospel values of Truth, Justice, Peace and Love. This is reflected in the excellent conduct and behavior of our students and the appreciation of the role they have in serving their school and the wider community.

We welcome visits from prospective staff.  If you would like an informal conversation about the post before applying, please contact Mr Mike Tominey at TomineyM@nbs.herts.sch.uk

Nicholas Breakspear Catholic School is committed to safeguarding, actively promoting British values and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All staff will be required to have an enhanced DBS Check and are required to have the ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of young children.

We are a school with a fresh mindset. We are unashamedly aspirational and ambitious for all. We pledge to work tirelessly to achieve our aim of quality and excellence in all that we do. We have high aspirations for every student and we are very aware that each child has one opportunity to achieve their potential. We take our role in providing the best environment for them to discover who they are and their mission in life very seriously.

Importantly we also want our students to enjoy their education; to be happy, safe and secure and to grow in God's love so that when they leave the school they are equipped to change the world and make it a better place.

Our staff play an important role in shaping the culture and ethos at Nicholas Breakspear Catholic School. They ensure students learn in a safe and supportive environment where strong relationships are formed.

Focussing on skills, aspirations and positive values is just as important for staff as it is for pupils. Staff are encouraged to develop their skills and are offered training opportunities to enhance their leadership potential.

We acknowledge the enormous role played by our parents in supporting the school and their children. We are privileged to have such wonderful people working with us. Our partnership with them is undoubtedly our greatest strength and we recognise that everything we do builds on their roles and examples as prime educators of their children.

We promise to Nurture our students to Believe in themselves and develop their relationship with God to Succeed in life.
