About the School

The English School, which is a not for profit school in Kuwait, has served the English speaking community for 70 years.  As the oldest British school in the Middle East, we are a school based on Tradition, Excellence & Success.

Closely following the Foundation Stage and National Curriculum for England, pupils are taught by well qualified and experienced staff who recognise that all children are unique.

Pupils are stretched and enriched by a curriculum that is broad, challenging and varied, and caters for the individual needs of each child. Pupils are also encouraged to develop their social and personal skills, with a strong emphasis upon good manners and respect for one another.

We constantly strive to improve the quality of education that we provide and respond quickly to initiatives and changes in the UK ensuring that our children really do get the very best education possible.

Accreditations

We pride ourselves on the quality of education that the school provides for its pupils and the only way that we can verify whether or not we meet the stringent requirements of a British education is to be inspected by a UK based and accredited inspection body.  There is none more rigorous or thorough than the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI). During our most recent ISI inspection in May 2022, the school met all expectations and standards.

As a member of IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) the school is one of an elite group of academic institutions providing an education for pupils from 3 to 13 years of age. IAPS membership is a clear indicator that a school delivers a first-rate education comparable to the very best prep schools in the UK. There are 15 IAPS schools in the Middle East region currently meeting the stringent requirements of IAPS accreditation, and we are very proud that The English School does so. In addition, we are a member of the BSME (British Schools in the Middle East)  and COBIS (Council of British International Schools) allowing us to attend in-service training, conferences, share best practice, and participate in events.

As a BSO (British Schools Overseas) school we are recognised for providing the very best in a British education.

About Kuwait

All members of staff would tell you that Kuwait is so much more than the common preconceived perception prevalent amongst those that have never visited.  Indeed, the vast majority of Kuwait’s 4.25 million inhabitants (1.5 million locals and almost 3 million expatriates) live in a city similar in size to Birmingham in the UK.  Many aspects of Kuwait are westernised and the preponderance of restaurants, cinemas and beach clubs would grace any top European destination.  The efficient, if extremely busy, network of motorways that criss-cross the metropolis makes it easy to get around.

As one of the richest countries in the world, Kuwait’s tax-free environment and geographical location provide an opportunity to save money, and act as an ideal stepping stone for travel around the Middle East and to the Far East.  There is a whole host of most impressive shopping outlets and malls around the city. Traditional souks specialising in gold, fabric and rugs, to name but a few, are invariably busy with eagle-eyed bargain hunters.  There are hundreds of restaurants to choose from and it is fair to say that eating out and shopping are national pastimes.

Kuwait is an extremely safe city where most goods are readily available.  Summers are hot, but the ten week break gives everyone time to get away and catch up with family and friends, or time to travel further afield.  April and May, and October and November are perfect for all manner of outdoor activities including exploring the desert wildlife and environment.  December through to March can be cool in the evenings but often still reach the low 20s during the day – a far cry from UK!  With an excellent golf course, wonderful beach clubs and a thriving social scene, not forgetting a rich history and heritage, Kuwait is so much more than the uninitiated think.  The school has an excellent reputation and teachers have been known to stay for more than 20 years. No one place is for everyone, but Kuwait might just be right for you.
