About Woodcote High School

Woodcote high school is on an exciting journey and is going to build on its strong History is absolutely determined to become a remarkable school. We do not just wish to be an outstanding school in every respect but one of the most outstanding schools in the entire country. We have unashamedly high aspirations for the students in our care both pastorally and academically. We have no doubt that every child who joins us will have every opportunity to reach their full potential and leave us exceptionally well-placed for a happy and successful future.

As a good school with outstanding features, Ofsted noted in 2015 that “students behave well. They enjoy lessons and work hard. They feel safe and secure”. In a further short inspection in 2018 Ofsted said that the school continues to be good.

We have a wide range of extracurricular activities and performances involving many students who stay behind after school and staff generously help with these. Activities change on a termly basis and involve sports, subject clubs and a variety of other activities. These are backed-up by an extensive range of trips and visits which range from day trips to long haul residential destinations.

In the wake of the 2012 London Olympics games, we built an Olympic standard running track on our extensive grounds and are one of the few comprehensive schools in the county with such a facility. More recent improvements have seen a £1.6 million refurbishment of our fourteen Science laboratories. All potential candidates are welcome to visit the school before they make their application.

Why work at Woodcote High School?

Woodcote High School is a high achieving 11-18 stand-alone Academy occupying a pleasant leafy site on the Croydon/Surrey border.

Being just in the London Borough of Croydon we offer the Outer London Pay Scales.

Our Progress 8 Score has been positive since the measure was introduced three years ago.

We hugely value staff professional development and have a fantastic NQT support programme. As part of a Teaching School Alliance we are committed to help train new teachers to the profession.

Teachers do enjoy working at Woodcote High School and socialise well. There is a buzzing staff room and colleagues take part in a wide range of social and sporting activities including free use of the Fitness Suite. We have onsite parking and offer tax-free Child-Care Vouchers together with on-site nursery provision.

 What are we passionate about?

We want to ensure that our students live by our ASPIRE principles of high Ambition, Self-reliance, Perseverance, Inquisitiveness, Respect and Enthusiasm for life. We also recognise that delivering first-class exam results is an equally fundamental responsibility. We have developed our curriculum to be not only academically rigorous but to foster a culture of excellence in our students.

We also understand that not all of our students are not the same, so our curriculum is created with these differences in mind. From a balanced and broad starting point, we seek to challenge all students to ensure they experience as much as they can in the short time that they are in compulsory education.

Children are talented in many ways and it is our duty to ensure that our sportsmen and women, our musicians, our artists, and our sculptors are all encouraged to explore the unique nature of their interests and talents. We want to ensure that each of our students achieve success, in every way possible, and we are committed to ensuring that we achieve this goal.

Success will be achieved by all stakeholders working together in partnership. We will challenge and support students to meet our high standards and this will, ultimately help us to grow our students into the happy adults that we wish to develop.

About Woodcote High School

Since opening in 1957, Woodcote High School has constantly evolved and grown, whilst remaining at the forefront of educational developments in the area.

Exam results have for many years exceeded national and local averages, delivering a positive Progress 8 score. Other landmark achievements over recent years include significant building projects, the opening of a Sixth Form at the School, the opening of an international standard athletics facility (Track Coulsdon, in conjunction with South London Harriers and other funding partners) and the establishment of the Enhanced Learning Provisionfor mobility impaired students.

Woodcote is a busy community, with lots to offer our students. We encourage students to develop enquiring minds that in turn increases their enthusiasm for enrichment both in and out of the classroom. Those interested in music and performance deliver great seasonal productions, and benefit from a wide range of individual music tuition. Our world-class Track Coulsdon is at the heart of our great sport and PE facilities, and we have a full range of extra-curricular sport.

In the Sixth Form, in addition to the whole school enrichment programme, students have the opportunity to stand for student leadership positions, take part in charity events and lead assemblies for raising awareness on subjects they are passionate about. We also run a series of events where guest speakers are invited into school to speak to the student body.
