Your new school

Founded in 1667 The Mirfield Free Grammar has a long-established tradition of success and promotes values such as respect, integrity, teamwork and aspiration. The MFG is a vibrant learning environment; everything we do, every decision we make is focused on the students and how we can inspire them to achieve the very best for themselves both academically and personally.

With excellent commuter links, we are situated just 10 minutes away from the M62 and 20 minutes from the M1.

In February 2020, Ofsted judged the school to be 'Good' in all four categories, reflecting the rapid improvements made over the past year across the school.

"Pupils are clear about what is expected of them. They have positive attitudes to learning and work hard.”

"Good progress is being made in increasing numbers in coming years."

"A better curriculum has led to effective learning. Behaviour in class has improved considerably. Staff have high expectations for all pupils."

Your new role

You will be responsible for delivering KS4 Health & Social Care (currently OCR National) as well as the BTEC (Level 3) National Diploma/Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care.  There will also be an opportunity to be involved in delivering the BTEC (Level 3) Extended Certificate in Children's Play, Learning and Development.

We are looking for someone with a clear passion and enthusiasm for delivering and developing the current curriculum in an engaging way. We welcome individuals who are open to new ways of working and can bring new, fresh ideas to the role.

What you’ll get in return

  • A supportive school who value the work life balance of our staff.
  • A team who fully support each other by planning together in order to design an effective curriculum and fully tailored lessons and assessments for each year group.
  • A commitment to developing reflective practitioners through our Continued Professional Development programme.
  • Weekly sessions introducing different aspects of pedagogy designed to complement each stage of your teaching career.
  • A fantastic Wellbeing Centre run by a trained counsellor; accessible for both staff & students providing high quality and skilled personalised support.

The small print

The MFG Academies Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

Founded in 1667 The Mirfield Free Grammar and Mirfield College has a long established tradition of success and promotes values such as respect, honesty, integrity, morality and courtesy.  We strive for excellence in everything we do. The MFG is a vibrant learning environment; everything we do, every decision we make is focused on the students and how we can inspire them to achieve the very best for themselves academically and personally.

We work hard to maintain a happy and well-run Academy, where students feel confident to thrive and develop. We strive to make our Academy a place of sound, stimulating and appropriate learning, where every student can achieve his/her potential. We create a caring community where great emphasis is placed upon good relationships and partnerships to encourage respect, understanding, co-operation and collaboration.

The Mirfield Free Grammar has an inspirational, positive, caring and welcoming environment, where all students can achieve their full academic, personal, spiritual and social potential.

Our staff lead by example and work hard to ensure that our young people feel happy, valued and secure, but equally they endeavour to enthuse them with a sense of aspiration, optimism and ambition. Work ethic is important and so is attitude. We encourage a ‘can do’ attitude in relation to both work and play, and our expectations are extremely high.

Local Information

Mirfield is a small West Yorkshire town and lies on the A644 between Dewsbury & Huddersfield. Surrounded by rolling hills and fields there are many lovely views in Mirfield, one of the nicest being from the staff room window! Mirfield has a wealth of historical figures associated with it such as Robin Hood, the Luddites and the Bronte’s. More recently, it has produced such fine actors as Patrick Stewart who is also a patron of the school.  Situated very close to the M62, M1 and the A1, Mirfield is within very easy access of most of the North particularly Manchester, Liverpool, York, Sheffield and Hull.  There is a lot of beautiful countryside to explore and for those who prefer the city life, Mirfield is easily commutable from the vibrant and exciting Leeds city centre.
