Job overview

Holly Lodge School are recruiting for a Teacher of Health & Social Care. We are a comprehensive 11-19 school and sixth form serving the diverse community of Smethwick, West Midlands. Our core values are Ambition, Opportunity and Community: we believe that every child, regardless of their background or starting point, is entitled to a world-class education in the best that has been thought, said and made, and that they should be equipped for joining the great conversations of humankind, shaping the future and living truly rewarding and meaningful lives. We believe in the power of expertly developed, subject specialist curriculum, alongside research-informed teaching approaches, high expectations for behaviour, and excellent pastoral care in achieving this vision. We are ambitious for the experience of our staff as well as our students: in terms of well-being, professional development and career progression. We believe that the key to staff wellbeing is sensible workload and a positive professional culture, and we place these at the heart of everything we do.

Health and social care is a successful and supportive department with large option uptake in KS4 and KS5. We currently deliver:

·        KS4 courses: BTEC Tech award in Health and Social Care and BTEC Tech award in Child Development

·        KS5 courses: BTEC National extended certificate and BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care

·        From September 2023 we are introducing the T Level qualification in childcare and education at KS5

Examination results are consistently excellent in the department. We benefit from strong links with local health, social care and early years providers for placements, visiting speakers and sector input. We were the first school in England to deliver the Royal College of Nursing cadet scheme, now on cohort 4 and giving all students a hospital clinical observational placement.

Our students progress onto a range of university routes in fields such as adult, child and mental health nursing, primary teaching, occupational therapy and social work.

This role could suit an experienced qualified teacher or for someone with HSC or early years sector experience, where support to gain QTS would be given.

This role will give you an opportunity to help shape incredible teaching and learning in the Health & Social Care faculty. If you have a passion for your subject and for education, and you share our values, please see our application pack via our website https://holly-lodge.org/.

Please provide a cover letter (Maximum of two sides of A4 paper) with your application outlining your skills experience in relation to the job description and person specification.

Applicants are welcome to discuss the position further and are encouraged to visit the school, please arrange via HLS_hr@holly-lodge.org. Completed applications should be sent to HLS_hr@holly-lodge.org by Monday 30th January 2023 at 09.00am.

At Holly Lodge we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff to share this commitment and to undergo appropriate checks, including enhanced DBS checks and a willingness to demonstrate commitment to the standards which flows from our vision and values.

The role is covered by part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 and therefore the ability to speak fluent spoken English is an essential requirement for this role. Holly Lodge supports Equal Opportunities Employment.

Vision and Values

The vision for Holly Lodge is encapsulated in three words: Ambition, Opportunity and Community. We believe that every child, regardless of their background or starting point, is entitled to a world-class education in the best that has been thought, said and made, and that they should be equipped for joining the great conversations of humankind, shaping the future and living truly rewarding and meaningful lives. At Holly Lodge there is no written marking of books, no written reports and no graded lesson observations: we believe in stripping away performative documents and activities that have little impact, in order to make time for the things that really make a difference. We believe that the key to staff wellbeing is sensible workload and a positive professional culture, and we place these at the heart of everything we do.

If you share our values and want to be part of a team which champions ambition, opportunity and community, then please see our applications pack for more information. We look forward to hearing from you.

Ofsted

“Underpinning the strong progress made in many subjects, and especially in English, is the rapid development of students’ literacy and language skills. Students make particularly impressive gains in their reading skills and in their general interest in and enjoyment of literature. ‘We all read every night’, said one Year 9 boy browsing through the very well-stocked shelves of the school’s large library, before explaining to the inspector why he loved the books of Roald Dahl.”
