Job overview

Forest School is offering an exciting opportunity for a well-qualified and inspiring individual to teach History at a leading London independent school in a large, experienced and successful department. This part-time position starting from January 2023 - or possibly Easter - offers the chance to teach a range of pupils and classes along an experienced team in a dynamic, forward-thinking school.

The Department currently consists of ten highly qualified and experienced specialists, many of whom occupy positions of broader responsibility in the school. Results in recent years have been consistently outstanding and sector leading. In 2022 83% of A Level Grades were awarded A*-A and 100% achieved A*-B. 91% of GCSE grades were awarded Grade 9-7, with 51% achieving Grade 9. Every year numerous pupils go on to read History at university, with regular successes at both Oxford and Cambridge.

The successful applicant will be expected to inherit a Year 10 IGCSE group who are taking the CAIE Option B (20th Century) course. Previous experience teaching this unit is, therefore, desirable.

The Forest School Ethos

Forest is a humane, open-minded school with both feet on the ground, in which the pupils’ all-round personal development is outstanding and academic attainment is high. It is, above all, a happy school which understands the rich inter-relationship between the curricular, the co-curricular and the pastoral. There is boldness in the School’s character, a readiness to be forward-thinking and adaptable, with pride in what we are and excitement for what lies ahead. We value growth, hard work, responsibility community, learning, diversity and wellbeing – values that are as applicable to our pupils as they are to our staff.

About Forest

Forest is a large, vibrant school, with approximately 1500 pupils from 4 to 18. Our traditional House structure means that each pupil is treated as an individual, of whom we have the highest expectations, while our size enables us to offer breadth and depth of opportunity.
