Job overview

Due to continued growth in school numbers and the development of two departments, we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and energetic teacher of history who can also offer classical civilisation and/or Latin to join an established and successful team of practitioners. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator who will convey their love of history, both modern and classical, to pupils of all ages and ability. They will be willing to make a full contribution to the teaching and development of the history and classics departments and will be expected to deliver exciting and varied lessons which engage pupils and encourage them to develop their skills and understanding of these facilitating subjects.

The ideal candidate should show initiative and confidence within their subject, aiming to stretch our able pupils whilst also having the flexibility to support our less able. Both history and classics are taught in mixed ability groups at KS3 and so lessons should be differentiated to accommodate all pupil needs.

The history department offers AQA A Level History, currently focusing on ‘The English Revolution’ and ‘The Revival of Islam and the Later Crusades, 1149-1204’. At GCSE, AQA History Option BC is taught.

In the classics department, the Cambridge Latin course is part of the Key Stage 3 curriculum with Latin and Classical Civilisation qualifications are offered at both GCSE and A Level.  The GCSE courses are OCR Latin and OCR Classical Civilisation; at A Level the courses follow OCR specifications.

The History Department has 1 full-time Head of History and two other members of staff who have been delivering some of the history curriculum at key stage 3. The Classics Department has a part-time head of department who also teaches some history.

Please view our Candidate Information Booklet for more information.

Closing Date: Monday 27th February at 8am

Interviews: w/c 6th March
