Educating 1200 students, The Bishop’s Stortford High School provides a single-sex education for boys in Years 7 to 11 and has a large, thriving co-educational sixth form, with over one hundred girls on roll. Last year our students achieved 84% 5 A*-C (Inc. English & Maths) at GCSE and 55% A*-B at A-Level. We have a strong ethos, based on high expectations and standards for all, a committed and supportive staff who deliver high quality, engaging lessons and well-behaved students with excellent attitudes to learning.
We were graded Outstanding in every category by Ofsted in March 2017.
We are seeking to appoint an excellent teacher of History and/or Government and Politics.
The successful candidate will want to work within an academic environment and will seek to instil a love of History and/or Government and Politics amongst all students, while promoting the highest standards of scholarship and excellence. The History department has a strong track record of examination success and History is a very popular choice post 16. In 2017, 74% of students achieved A*-B grades at GCSE with 50 % achieving an A* or A grade. At A-Level 74% of students achieved A*-B grades with 33% achieving an A* or A grade. The Government and Politics department also has a strong track record of examination success and is taught at A-Level only. In 2017, 77 % of students achieved A*-B grades.
Both departments are well resourced and also seek to extend provision beyond the classroom with a wide range of trips, lectures and enrichment opportunities. The school places a strong emphasis on staff development and the appointed candidates can expect to gain significant enjoyment and professional fulfilment from working here.
The school has a formidable range of extra-curricular activities, which include first class fixture cards in all major sports, a diverse and high quality music and drama programme, DofE, debating, public speaking and many more.

The school’s motto: ‘Respice, Aspice, Prospice’ means we must look to the past, the present and the future.
