An outstanding teacher of History is required for September 2021. The Department is very successful, and the School has a long-standing record of high academic achievement (92.5% of A Level and Pre-U entries gained A* to B/D1-M1 grades in 2019). There is also much happening in terms of extra-curricular activities, and all staff are expected to be fully involved in School life.
History is vibrant, successful and flourishing at CLS; Old Grammar (Y6) follow a stand-alone course on the Second World War, First to Third Form broadly cover 1066 – 1919 and well over a hundred boys a year opt for the CIE IGCSE. Numbers for A-Level History are high (regularly over 30) and Politics is also thriving (regularly over 20). There is a rich supra-curricular programme as well, which is overseen by the Head of Department, including reading groups and trips. Large numbers of pupils go on to high-tariff universities to read History, Politics, International Relations, Law, PPE and other associated courses.
The post will involve teaching History to Years 6 – 13 and Politics in the Sixth Form. The post would be suitable for an NQT (we provide statutory induction) or a colleague with more experience.
CLS was named by the Sunday Times as London Independent Secondary School of the Year 2020, and occupies fine, modern buildings near St. Paul’s Cathedral overlooking the Thames, opposite the Tate Modern. There are impressive off-site sports facilities in south east London.
Salary will be paid on the CLS scale (£34,460 to £56,510 plus two progression points to £60,250 pa 2020-2021).

City of London School is an independent school based in London for boys aged 10-18.
The school site is situated by the Thames. It has over 20 acres of sports pitches. It was established in 1834 and moved to its present site in 1986. The school is governed by a board and by the City of London Corporation, which appoints its governors.
