Job overview

The Trustees are seeking to appoint a Teacher of History with effect from September 2020.

Would you like to progress your career under the guidance of a school recently judged by OFSTED as ‘outstanding’? As an NQT or RQT, would you like to benefit from a low teaching load and the personal support of a dedicated and outstanding teacher as you develop your practice in the early stage of your career?   Would you like to receive an above average starting salary and subsidised home/school transport? Would you also like to accelerate your development through the opportunity to teach in two distinctly different schools within the Laidlaw Schools Trust of which Sedgefield is a part?

If the answer to each of these questions is ‘yes’ then we think we have an opportunity that could be right for you.

We welcome applications from those who are relatively new to the profession. Or, those who will newly qualify in 2020, and would therefore wish to progress their career under the guidance of an outstanding and supportive History team under the guidance of an outstanding Subject Leader and mentor.

If you are someone who has the ability to engage and enthuse students with a love of History, coupled with the drive and commitment required to become a truly outstanding teacher, then we would like to hear from you.

The successful candidate will join a successful MAT where all Academies support each other to the benefit of our pupils and their families. Our Academies also enjoy strong support from an experienced LST central team, based in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Further details and  application materials can be downloaded from the vacancies section of the school website http://www.sedgefieldcommunitycollege.co.uk/vacancies/ Interested candidates who wish to have an informal chat with the Headteacher or tour the school, are to contact Penny Walmsley at the school on 01740 617777.

Closing Date: Tuesday 25th February 2020 (12 noon)

Candidates who have not been contacted by Friday 28th February may assume they have been unsuccessful.

Interviews will take place: week commencing 24th February 2020

Applications should be returned to: Penny Walmsley personnel@sedgefield.cc

We are an equal opportunities employer strongly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be required to obtain an Enhanced Certificate of Disclosure from the DBS and a range of other recruitment checks. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their commitment to children’s safeguarding.

Named in the Sunday Times list of the UK's top 50 schools (11 to 16),  Sedgefield Community College is now firmly established as one of North England’s consistently highest performing schools, with a reputation for outstanding and creative teaching and learning allied with strong, successful leadership. Whilst we are proud of our reputation as a highly successful school, as measured by its examination performance, we also take immense pride in the reputation we have for developing outstanding teachers and leaders.

In March 2017, Sedgefield was subject to an OFSTED inspection and as a result judged to be outstanding in all respects, however this significant achievement did not signal the end of the school’s commitment to achieving ever improving standards in all aspects of its work, rather it has merely acted as the catalyst for further progress.

Our student's attitudes to learning are excellent, with OFSTED going so far as to describe student conduct as ‘impeccable’. The high standard of care and support we provide our students has over time created a tangible bond between students and staff and as a result relationships between adults and students are such that we can confidently describe our students as welcoming, respectful and thoughtful and Sedgefield as a ‘happy’ school.

Having moved into our stunning new school building in 2011, we recognise how fortunate we are to have such a superb learning environment and the facilities that it provides. Whilst an impressive building does not necessarily equate to an outstanding school it certainly plays its part in supporting the culture of high standards and excellence that permeates everything that we do.
