Teacher of History

Alec Hunter AcademyEssex

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, resourceful and committed Teacher of History to join a collaborative and high-performing Humanities team with a keen focus on securing progress for every student.  Applications are welcome from experienced and newly qualified teachers able to teach throughout the age and ability range. The school offers an excellent induction for NQTs and would be able to support you through your first year.  A commitment to raising standards and forming positive relationships with young people is essential.

Alec Hunter Academy is a mixed, oversubscribed 11-16 comprehensive school with an established reputation as a welcoming and forward-thinking learning community.  Ofsted graded the school as ‘good’ for the first time in its history in July 2017, with the report noting that “School leaders have established a culture where expectations of pupils and teachers are high and improvement is rapid”.  The History team is among the strongest in our school, with very high student uptake at Key Stage 4 and consistently impressive GCSE outcomes, above national averages.

Alec Hunter is a member of the Saffron Academy Trust, working in close partnership with a small family of schools in north-west Essex, including Saffron Walden County High, one of the highest performing schools in the county.  Numerous opportunities for professional development exist through this partnership and our membership of several local networks.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.  A Disclosure and Barring Service check at enhanced level will be required for this post.  If you would like to visit the school prior to making an application, please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange this.
