Teacher of History

Baleares International College, Sa PorassaMallorca, Spain

Are you a fully qualified, inspirational, and highly motivated teacher, passionate about teaching history, and seeking a new opportunity at a successful and growing international school?  If so, you will be interested in this exciting opportunity to join us.

About the School

Baleares International College (BIC) https://balearesint.net/campuses/sa-porassa-campus is the largest British owned school in Mallorca, providing education based on the English National Curriculum to over 400 students (from 3 to 18 years) in Sa Porrassa, a very accessible but beautiful rural area, adjacent to the south west coast of Mallorca.  We are accredited by the Spanish Ministry of Education, based upon inspection and recommendation by the British Council, and are a founding member of the National Association of British Schools in Spain (NABSS).  The school is also a member of COBIS, the Council of British International Schools.

About the Opportunity

The school is seeking to appoint a history teacher, with effect from September 2021. Applicants should be committed and outstanding teaching practitioners, able to lead by example, possessing excellent teaching, organisational and communication skills. The ability and willingness also to teach politics at A’level would be advantageous.

We are seeking individuals who can apply a committed and common-sense approach to secondary education, such that it achieves outstanding results and happy children. The role requires an individual who has sky-high expectations of what children can achieve and how they can behave. Although you will be a secondary teacher, as an all-through school we are seeking someone who is excited about the opportunities such a school creates, keen to work with primary staff to ensure a joined-up approach to the curriculum and a seamless transition across the two key stages.

The successful candidate will want to play their part in the development and implementation of the school’s strategic plan, supporting the delivery of the school's mission to make the school the number one choice on the island.

As a British school, specialising in teaching the National Curriculum to a diverse, international student population, strong English language is an essential requirement and applications from native-level speakers of English are preferred.

For more information, please refer to the letter from the principal, and separate Job Profile.

Living and working in Mallorca

As a relaxed, friendly and cosmopolitan island, working in Mallorca has many benefits. From the beautiful beaches and coves spread across its 550km coastline, to the majestic world heritage Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, the splendid landscape means you are never far from the mountains or sea. The international city of Palma de Mallorca is also close by, one of Spain’s major cities, steeped in history, wonderful architecture, shops and restaurants.

(The added benefit of cheap and short haul transport links to the UK and Europe - via Palma de Mallorca Airport – means that home and some of Europe’s finest cities are only a short journey away. Obviously, currently there are limitations to this but Spain itself, of course, offers myriad opportunities for travel, and residents enjoy a fantastic perk of a discount of 75% on all internal travel such as planes and ferries. Education restrictions are currently far more flexible than the UK with schools fully open.)

Applications - Applications should be made by e-mail, and include a supporting statement and an updated CV, including the details of two referees, one of whom should be your most recent employer. Short listed applicants will be expected to complete a full application form prior to interviews. Interested applicants should review the job profile, and ensure their supporting statement highlights their experience and impact to date, why they want the job and what impact they would expect to make.

The application should be no more than 1000 words.

Applications should be sent to: alison.colwell@balearesint.net

Please note that direct applications to TES will not be read, as we wish applicants to make a bespoke application to BIC and this post.
