St Gregory’s Catholic High School is seeking to appoint a Teacher of History on a maternity contract in the first instance, with the potential of becoming a permanent employee due to the continuing expansion of our school which will be complete in September 2022.
The maternity position is ideal for someone looking for flexibility and work / life balance and requires a 3 day per week commitment (0.6) with two full days off per week.
However, for someone looking for increased hours, we are open to accommodating 4 days (0.8) or full time - the successful candidates preferences can be negotiated at interview.

The successful candidate would be working with an effective, dynamic team of subject specialists who strive to provide the best learning experience for pupils through high expectations, inspirational teaching and personalised support. In Years 7, 8 and 9 pupils follow a History curriculum that focuses on developing the skills and content needed to prepare for the demands of GCSE. In Years 10 and 11, pupils study the Edexcel GCSE exam board specification. The department consists of two full time and two part time teachers of History and teaching takes place in three History classrooms which are well resourced. This is an excellent opportunity for an outstanding and effective practitioner who has the desire to continue to raise standards across the department.
The successful candidate will be passionate about History and will be personally driven to ensure that every child achieves and makes good progress through challenge and engagement. History is an extremely popular option subject with 117 pupils in Year 10 and 104 in Year 11. Content studied at GCSE includes Anglo-Saxon and Norman England 1060-1088, Superpower Relations and the Cold War 1941-1991, The USA 1954-1975: Conflict at home and abroad and Crime and Punishment in Britain, c1000-Present Day. This will be assessed over three examinations.
