Teacher of History
We invite applications from suitably qualified history specialists to join our humanities department as the subject grows in popularity. We also offer Global Perspectives, in 2018 having the top student in Malaysia at IGCSE. An interest in cross -curricular study within the humanities area is likely, but essential is a genuine passion for history and for sharing that enthusiasm with our students. Malaysia, and Penang in particular, is a fascinating region with a long and complex pre-colonial, colonial and modern history, sure to enthuse anyone new to the area, and valued by those already familiar with it. George Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, energetically protected as a record of the region’s rich and colourful multicultural past. At the same time, the rapid modernisation and development of this part of south east Asia contrasts dramatically with that heritage.
There is a dynamic staff culture at the school with strong professional development programmes, which have a national reputation. There is an emphasis on the appropriate use of IT in a blended and realistic educational environment, achieving the best outcomes with varied approaches. Students have their own devices. Since the foundation of the school in 2011, POWIIS has built a significant reputation in the region and beyond with excellent results; although we have students of a wide range of abilities, they are all equally deserving of the highest quality of teaching to the level of their potential.
A detailed job description will be evolved by negotiation with the successful applicant.
Our school is committed to the highest standards of safeguarding and student welfare, and expects all applicants to share this commitment.
Malaysian work permits are usually granted for two or three years. Contracts are therefore fixed term, but continuity is important for the school; it is hoped that appointments will be seen as longer term, with renewal of contracts common. The staff is predominantly European, who share with high quality Malaysian and other international colleagues, outstanding facilities and resources.
