SSAT Double Award Winners 2015, Pupil Premium Award Winners & 'Prince's Teaching Institute Mark' 2016, National Rugby School of the Year and UNA Debating Champions 2017

We wish to appoint an excellent teacher of History to join this strong department. Applications are welcome from individuals of all faiths or none, who will support the Catholic ethos of our school. This is an exciting opportunity to support the literacy development of students.

Our repeatedly oversubscribed School achieved 80% 5 A*-C (4+) including Maths and English in 2017 and the Sixth Form received an ‘outstanding’ ALP’s judgement in 2016. In our previous Ofsted Section 5 inspection both ‘Behaviour & Safety’ and our Sixth Form were judged ‘outstanding’. In our most recent monitoring visit (January 2018) Ofsted stated that the ‘…steady and reassuring approach ensures the strong commitment of staff…’ and ‘the teachers are welcoming and friendly, and it creates an atmosphere where you belong…’

In History we achieve consistently excellent results – in June 2017 78% secured A*-C grades at GCSE and we achieved a ‘Good’ ALPs score at A-level. The History Department currently has three dedicated teaching rooms in our new £2.8 million Sir David Lane Building, all equipped with interactive white boards.

We offer:

· A strong feedback culture and established programme of induction and mentoring.

· A supportive environment in which your enthusiasm will be nurtured and talents valued.

· A commitment to your professional development and leadership training.

· The chance to network with outstanding practitioners as part of the ‘PIXL’ programme.

· Free access to our on-site gymnasium.

· Residential experiences available to Austria, Spain, Belgium, France, South Africa and USA.

Please contact Janet Rigby, Office Manager on jrigby3@suttonmail.org to arrange a visit or an informal discussion.

About The John Fisher School

Our mission is simple – we aspire for academic, cultural and sporting excellence. We want to be the best all boys’ catholic comprehensive school in the country!

John Fisher is an oversubscribed 11-18 comprehensive school with 1155 students including 223 in the Sixth Form. We are located just outside Purley town centre and a 15 minute walk from the train station (27 minutes from London Bridge and 20 minutes from Gatwick Airport).

There is definitely a culture of achievement at John Fisher and visitors always comment about our “distinctive” ethos. If you come to visit us, you will see that our students are happy and are very positive about our school.

Our vibrant staff are enthusiastic and passionate about ensuring our students get the very best deal. Looking after our staff and ensuring they are supported and given every opportunity to develop:

“As an NQT, I was very pleased with the support I received” (Ella Fowler, Acting Subject Leader of Art);

I am really proud to be a member of staff at The John Fisher School. During my time here I have had many opportunities to develop my knowledge and skills. This has enabled me to progress from Director of Learning to Assistant Headteacher. Well-being continues to be an important focus for all in our community and this compliments the Catholic ethos of the school.” (Iestyn Jones, Assistant Headteacher).

Our teachers:

· Never receive judgements about their teaching.

· Engage in peer learning and work collaboratively

· Have a voice that is listened to and enjoy their job

Our school:

· Does not hold unnecessary meetings

· Encourages all employees to develop professionally and has a non-threatening, supportive professional development (appraisal) process

· Prioritises wellbeing and provides free access to our on-site gymnasium as well as many other benefits

· Has a distributive leadership philosophy not subscribing to a top-down management approach
