Job overview

The British International School of Jeddah (BISJ), is seeking to recruit a Teacher of History to join the Secondary School in August 2023. The ideal candidate will have prior experience of teaching IB Diploma Programme or A-Level History. Candidates must demonstrate a passion for their subject and the ability to support and motivate students across the age and ability range to develop a love of learning and to achieve high academic outcomes.

The BISJ Secondary School provides an exciting place to work, delivering a modified UK National Curriculum at Key Stage 3, followed by Cambridge IGCSE in Years 10 and 11, culminating in the IB Diploma Programme in Years 12 and 13. Academic outcomes and expectations are very high and students consistently outperform the IB worldwide points average. BISJ is valued by the local, regional and international community with parents, students, staff and alumni having a sense of pride and belonging to the school. BISJ expects staff to contribute beyond their normal role or subject area both pastorally and through the provision of after school activities to support the vision of helping students to learn to live, lead and learn.

Please visit our website (bisj.com) or contact the Director (director@conti.sch.sa), if you would like to learn more. Applications will be reviewed as soon as they are received.

Please note that the school’s status locally as an International 'Community School' enables work visas to be processed for ‘western nationals’ including United Kingdom, New Zealand, South African and Australian citizens. Unfortunately, BISJ cannot accept teachers with a trailing spouse or teachers over 56 years of age.

About The British International School of Jeddah

The British International School of Jeddah was established in 1977 and provides high quality international education to the expatriate and local community in Jeddah.

The school is accredited by the Council of International Schools the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and British Schools in the Middle East. We are authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) and Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).

In total, the school has over 1300 students from over sixty countries. Teaching staff are mainly recruited from the United Kingdom, Australasia, North America and locally. The school resides on a pleasant, safe and secure campus with excellent facilities and resources.

The curriculum is designed to provide students with transferable skills and a love of learning.  There is strong support in the Primary School for the use of enquiry based learning through the development of integrated thematic units. These draw the International Primary Curriculum (IPC).

In Years 10 and 11 the curriculum leads to the externally assessed examinations of the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), set by Cambridge International Examinations. Post 16 education is based on International Baccalaureate courses, with the majority of students taking the full Diploma course.
