Job overview

Arden is a truly exceptional school at the heart of the community and the peak of academic excellence.  Situated just minutes from Junction 5 of the M42 and only 3 miles from the town of Solihull, visitors are astounded by our confident and articulate pupils. The warmth and trust between teachers and students is exemplary, as is the constant drive to achieve maximum personal and academic potential. As part of a Multi Academy Trust, there is the opportunity for exceptional training and the sharing of knowledge and ideas.

In every way, the History Department mirrors the aims and beliefs of the school. All staff work hard, supported by a committed management team, to provide a safe and encouraging environment for learning. Arden pupils love to acquire new knowledge and skills; our teachers relish the opportunity to deliver engaging, challenging lessons to committed pupils.

We are looking to appoint an outstanding teacher of History, fixed term for one year due to maternity leave. The successful candidate will have excellent subject knowledge and be able to motivate students through inspirational teaching. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented teacher to join a thriving school and work with students who are keen to learn. The opportunity to teach A Level Politics could be offered to a suitable candidate. Applications are welcomed from NQTs and experienced practitioners.

History at GCSE is hugely popular and both History and Politics are offered at A Level. Outstanding engagement and progress are reflected in the significant number of pupils opting to take both these subjects at A Level.

The school has a proven record of success at GCSE and A Level. In summer 2018, 84% of pupils gained A*-C/9-4 grades in 5 or more subjects with 86% of students also gaining a grade 4 or above in English and Mathematics (62% gaining grade 5 or above). In 2018 the average attainment 8 score was 55.5 with a progress 8 score of 0.28. 29% of GCSE grades awarded were at 7+/A+ and 39% of pupils achieved the English Baccalaureate. At A Level, 99% of pupils achieved A*-E with an average grade per candidate of a B-.

Children of staff who are permanently employed at Arden Academy are eligible for a ‘staff’ priority for main school and Sixth Form admissions (please see Admissions on our school website for full details).

Opportunities don’t arise very often to teach at a school like Arden and we are delighted to be offering the chance for someone to join the department.

In return, we can offer you:

  • A positive and innovative learning culture supported by students, staff, parents and governors
  • Enthusiastic students who enjoy learning and engage positively in all aspects of school life
  • As a Teaching School, access to high-quality continuing professional development and the opportunity for personal growth and development
