Queen Mary’s Grammar School is an invigorating and rewarding place to work: the pupils are intelligent and committed to study; the staff are friendly and forward looking. It is far more than just a place of work – it is a thriving community, proud of its past and confident of its future. In November 2008, it was recognised as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, our most recent inspection.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and well qualified specialist teacher of History to join a thriving and popular department at Queen Mary’s Grammar School. The successful candidate will be required to teach to from KS3 up to A Level. Applications are welcome from both newly qualified and experienced teachers.

Queen Mary’s Grammar School is a jewel in the heart of the Mercian region and enjoys a national reputation for academic achievement, topping the Walsall league tables not only for raw GCSE results but also for the new Progress 8 measure. The school adds great value to students’ attainment after their selective entry; the History department exemplifies this, with 94% of students attaining A or A* at GCSE in 2016. The department’s results are impressive by national standards at both GCSE and A Level. Our 2016 A Level results were 94% A*-A, 100% A*-C. Passionate teachers and enthusiastic pupils are the secrets behind this success, and the chosen candidate will be supported in harnessing their love of the subject into great, effective teaching.

Now is an exciting time in the history of Queen Mary’s Grammar School. We are establishing the Mercian Multi Academy Trust alongside four other schools which represent a diverse range of educational establishments: Aldridge School, Queen Mary’s High School, Shire Oak Academy and Walsall Studio School; this partnership will bring advantages to our pupils present and future. Please see the accompanying booklet in the full application pack for further information about the Mercian Multi Academy Trust.

Queen Mary’s Grammar School is committed to equal opportunities and to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All postholders are subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.
