Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a full time Teacher of History who is able to teach across the Senior School age range (11-18 years) and who can prepare pupils for GCSE and A Level examinations in the subject. History is a very popular subject at this school.

Our History Department sits within the Faculty of Humanities. As one of the School’s most popular optional subjects at IGCSE Level, take up into the Sixth Form in History is strong and each year, pupils progress into higher education to read for degrees in the subject. We have a strong record in terms of Oxbridge success and examination outcomes at both IGCSE and A Level are strong.

A team of five teachers teach across the 11-18 age range. We offer Edexcel specifications at both IGCSE and A Level, with a particular emphasis upon modern history. The Department supplements its provision with a rich blend of co-curricular activity, including an active History Society and an annual visit to the First World War Battlefields around Ypres.

We are seeking to employ someone who has:

•An understanding of the curriculum and can assess pupil progress

• The ability to work well with a range of audiences, including parents/carers and other professionals

• Excellent communication and organisational skills (including written and oral skills)

• Professional knowledge of what constitutes high quality and standards in teaching and learning

• Professional understanding of inclusion and strategies for engaging all learners

• Professional understanding of safeguarding within a school setting

• The ability to write reports, keep accurate records and communicate effectively

• Effective organisation skills

• Resilience, the ability to work under pressure and be able to meet deadlines

• Proven ability to prioritise workloads

• Passion for teaching and learning

• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

The candidate should be open-minded, self-evaluative and adaptable to changing circumstances and new ideas.

Ibstock Place School is an independent co-educational day school for pupils aged 4 to 18. The school occupies a ten-acre site on the edge of Richmond Park in South West London.

An urban location with a beautiful botanical feel, Ibstock is the perfect home for scholarly exploration and adventure. Championing co-education since our founding in 1896, we have created a diverse environment that reflects real-world communities and workplaces.

Our school is over subscribed, with assessed entry at the age of four for Kindergarten (Reception). There is a competitive entry examination at the age of eleven and most pupils in the Prep School proceed on into the Senior School.
