Job overview

An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic specialist to join our vibrant Humanities Faculty to teach both History and PRE. The faculty is highly successful and includes the subjects of History, Politics, Philosophy, Religion & Ethics (PRE) and PSHE.  Although part of a faculty, we are committed to timetabling staff to teach within their specialism(s) so our students benefit from subject experts.

As well as impressive outcomes at GCSE, History and PRE are both popular and successful at A Level, with ten Sixth Form classes across the faculty planned for September 2025. The department organises an extensive range of subject-related trips.

You must have a passion for your subject and the skills to engage students across the age and ability range.  The role is offered as a one-year contract and we welcome applications from experienced and Early Career Teachers (ECTs). Due to the continuing development of the faculty, there may be opportunities for future permanent employment.

Ofsted (2024) commented that (pupils) “are active participants in their learning and consistently demonstrate high levels of focus … teachers are experts in the subjects they teach … pupils’ conduct and manners are exemplary … any disruption to learning is incredibly rare… staff are extremely positive about the support that they receive from leaders…particularly around their professional development and well-being”. The inspection included a deep dive into several subjects including Mathematics.

Parmiter’s coordinates CPD for the Watford Partnership for Teacher Training and offers a robust induction programme. We can offer the successful candidate:

  • July 1st start date for ECTs with a comprehensive programme to support the Early Career Framework and bespoke CPD to suit your career goals.
  • Focus on Staff Well-Being with an online GP service, Employee Assistance Programme, complimentary use of the on-site Fitness Suite and an on-site subsidised electric vehicle charging point.
  • A high quality and well-resourced teaching environment with highly talented and engaged students.
  • An admission policy prioritising the children of staff (a qualifying period may apply).
  • Lovely school grounds in leafy surrounds with ample parking.

Please apply using the school website. Closing date noon, March 3rd 2025.

Parmiter’s School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all members of staff to share this commitment. Applicants must declare any criminal convictions as the post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Appointments will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via the Disclosure and Barring Service and references from previous employers. We are required to conduct online searches for shortlisted candidates in accordance with the Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance in order to identify any incidents or concerns which are publicly available online. We are an Equal Opportunities employer.

The Good Schools Guide

Parmiter's School relocated to the current 60 acre rural Hertfordshire site from London's East End in 1977.  The site is currently undergoing a period of development and has recently opened a new £4m state of the art Science facility. The school enjoys a good reputation for traditional values and academic achievement whilst maintaining a true family feel among staff and students.

Experienced teachers, Early Careers Teachers and support staff benefit from a supportive leadership team who focus on personal development and wellbeing as a priority. Staff benefit from complimentary use of a new Fitness Suite facility.

Parmiter's leads the Watford Partnership for Teacher Training in collaboration with 11 local schools, the University of Hertfordshire and Herts for Learning.

The school is consistently over subscribed for Year 7 and Sixth Form entry.  Children of staff are a priority for admission.
