Waingels is a very successful 11 to 18 Comprehensive school serving its local community. Our successes and achievements can be attributed to our commitment to establish and grow a Better Never Stops culture, providing a safe, inclusive and rich learning environment where students feel safe and valued. We set high standards and expect all our students and staff to be respectful, kind, resilient and proud of our school, our achievements and our community. The successful candidate will join a highly motivated faculty and will have the opportunity to teach at key stage 3 and 4.

Our values underpin our “Waingels Ready” expectations that we have for everyone within the Waingels community. These expectations form the basis of everything we do, and everything we believe in as a school and as a community.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative teacher who has the ability to teach History and work collaboratively within a popular Department.

History is taught across all key stages. We strongly believe in a three-year Key Stage 3 and have taken significant time to create an engaging, relevant and knowledge-rich curriculum. Planning, curriculum development and effective feedback are particular strengths of the History department and we are often used as examples to support other subjects. History staff work very closely together in an environment where staff wellbeing is at the forefront.

This position will be predominantly teaching KS3 and KS4 History. Lessons are planned collaboratively within the departments and shared in a central area, but teachers also have autonomy over their lessons and are welcome to amend central resources or create their own lessons based off the Schemes of Work.

History is a popular subject at all key stages and recruitment at GCSE and A Level is strong. The department has an excellent track record with results.

We are looking to appoint someone who is confident that they can deliver high quality lessons. The successful candidate will be able to feed into the wider character of our department.

Our students follow an academic core curriculum throughout Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. This includes the study of History, Geography and a Language as well as English, Maths and Science. But our students also have the opportunity to do a range of practical and vocational subjects including a wide range of creative and performing arts, physical education and other humanities like Business studies, Psychology and Economics.

If you feel your values and ethos align with ours, this is an exciting opportunity for you! We are looking for someone with energy and vision that is ambitious for themselves and the young people of the school. You will have a growth mindset and believe in offering dynamic Computing learning across the Key Stages.

Working with us offers you the opportunity to;

  • Join a positive school where effort and success is celebrated
  • Engage in excellent and personalised professional development opportunities
  • Have the support of a dynamic leadership team to ‘take risks’ in a supportive environment

So, if…

-you have a passion for teaching and learning…

-you believe in curriculum innovation and enjoy thinking strategically…

-you believe in an aspirational education…

-you believe that better never stops…

…Waingels is the place for you to pursue and advance your career!

Our staff and students are proud of our school and we would be happy to welcome you if you would like to come and have a closer look. Please feel free to contact us for an informal conversation about this exciting role. Please telephone the college on 0118 969 0336 or email the Headteacher’s Personal Assistant, Jane Jennings, on Jenjjn@waingels.wokingham.sch.uk
