Job overview

Are you a History Teacher passionate about your subject?

Do you have the ability to deliver interactive and engaging lessons which inspire students to get excited about History?

Do you want to take on more responsibility as part of your career progression and influence whole school decision making?

We are looking for an ambitious, enthusiastic and successful History practitioner keen to develop their career to join Our Lady and St Chad Catholic Academy in the role of Teacher of History.

We are a high performing school in North East Wolverhampton. We have a successful Humanities team. History is a popular subject at KS4 and KS5 and results in the Sixth Form are very good.

The Department

The successful individual will join our History department and teach alongside a vibrant team. History is a very popular subject at GCSE with a growing A Level department. History has made good local links with the Cold War Musuem at RAF Cosford and the Black Country Museum where we encourage students to learn outside the classroom. We are a PIXL Club member and run the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme in partnership with other teams in school. We have great facilities including dedicated History teaching rooms each with new interactive whiteboards and access to 1-1 devices. We are also developing Kagan strategies for cooperative learning within the school to engage all learners

Join us and grow

In return, you will benefit from working within a school which encourages both staff and students to be aspirational. Staff development is a priority and staff are empowered to continue their own learning - alongside external training opportunities, the Academy has introduced a series of highly successful programmes. We have developed an accelerated leadership programme linked to NPQML and NPQSL and offer a range of cutting edge Induction and CPD Programmes across the Multi Academy, including funding towards second degree and research work. The Gold Investors in People Award confirms the quality of this aspect of school.

Building a strong staff who are encouraged to aim high in their own careers, we equip them to unclip the wings of every child and promote excellence in all areas.

This role would suit an ambitious teacher who is seeking a role with progression to Curriculum Leader of department. If you are keen to work in a successful and growing school which encourages staff to aim high in their own careers, this could be a great opportunity for you.

Ofsted

“The quality of teaching is good and a growing proportion is outstanding. Teachers know all their students well and have high expectations. The sixth form is good. The majority of students make good progress in their courses; these meet their needs well. All students go on to training, employment or further education. The school’s sports specialism makes an exceptional contribution to the personal development of students and to the wider community.”
