Duration: Permanent, 35 hours per week.

Location: Dyce Academy

Job Purpose:

To deliver quality education to assigned pupils and contribute to the professional, corporate life of the school in relation to pupils, staff and appropriate external bodies within the agreements of the SNCT.

 

Requirements
The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

Appropriate teaching qualification.

Full GTC (Scotland) registration in the appropriate subject/sector, or be eligible for such registration.

PVG scheme membership.

Responsibilities
The post holder is expected to demonstrate:

Ability to teach the full curriculum in the relevant subject or sector, and to develop the curriculum.

Ability to manage and organise classes through planning and preparing for teaching and learning.

Ability to assess, record and report on the work of pupils’ progress to inform a range of teaching and learning approaches.

Ability to prepare pupils for examinations and qualifications and where required, assist with their administration.

Ability to contribute towards good order and the wider needs of the school.

Ability to contribute to the school and council planning and improvement processes.

Ability to maintain and develop knowledge and skills and contribute to the professional development of colleagues including probationary and student teachers.

Dyce Academy is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school with sixth form situated north west of Aberdeen city centre. It is a community state school, the only secondary state school in Aberdeen’s Dyce suburb. The Dyce Academy website identifies a school roll of 560 secondary and sixth form students between the ages of 12-18. 

The school was built in the late 1970s and opened its doors to students in 1980.

Values and Vision

Dyce Academy is a supportive and caring environment for students, stimulating healthy learning habits at the same time as promoting good behaviour, all to make sure that students are well-rounded individuals upon leaving the school.

Since 2001, it has hosted the Aberdeen City Music School (ACMS), which is a national centre of excellence in music. There is also a specialist base for students with learning difficulties (ASN base) and a Mainstream Inclusion of Children on the Autistic Spectrum (MICAS) base. It is a school with Fair Trade status.

Education Scotland

“Young people are developing confidence and social skills through a wide range of sporting and cultural activities. A number of young people are developing teamwork and leadership skills through The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. Across the school, many are learning to work effectively with others through participation in groups such as the eco group or Fairtrade group. Young people have developed a greater awareness of global citizenship through extensive charity fundraising as well as international visits and visitors.”
